what are you applying for at St.Andrews?
the one appealing to me is theoretical physics but i'm not 100% sure what it is. I want to specialize in Astrophysics or Quantum physics later on but i don't want to confine myself so quickly: thus Natural sciences at Cambridge.

Hey guyz!

GCSEs: 8A*s, 2.5As and a B.
AS Levels: Physics, Maths, History, Psychology.

Looking at Durham, Birmingham, Lancaster and Oxford. Wanted Cambridge but rawr, I don't think they'd let me on Natural Sciences with just 2 maths/science A-Levels, they like 3. I've got my heart set on Lancaster at the mo though - Physics, Astrophysics & Space Science, dfkjfkjhbgkg <3

Astrophysics, but I've mostly decided against it - Physics w/ would be better. I'm looking at Theoretical Physics as well for precisely the same reasons :smile:

Although that's in institutions that don't offer something like Physics w/ Astrophysics that I'm considering Theoretical Physics because I reckon I'm a stronger candidate for the former than the latter ^.^

Yeah that one looks awesome too, it really was a toss-up between cosmology and space science but in the end went with the latter. I'd never even heard about Lancaster before like the day before yesterday, what a godsend <3

I have no blame on you having your eyes set on Lancaster.
It really can't be beaten in Physics, just had such an academically professional view.
It's also, always top in research. Always.

Came 1st this year again. It really is the uni that stands out if you want to do Physics. Everywhere else seems to have aberrations here or there. :P

Southampton uni is a really nice place. My uncle used to lecture there so I've visited it. Town is quite nice as well, and their courses and pretty cool. Don't they do a fortnight trip to an observatory in Tenerife as well?

Currently considering: Durham, Birmingham as my main options, sheffield as an insurance so far, not really fallen for anywhere else that ive been to (not been to many though), but wasnt overly keen on york and nottingham on first glance.

Also, thinking of doing theoretical physics as i wouldn't at all mind the extra maths, and find lab work dull and tedious (at A-level mind, might be different at uni), but at some unis theoretical basically swaps out lab work for computing, which im not so fond on.

I would be applying for manchester if it weren't for that i'm from here!

Other people find it massive, but even I, as a semi-stereotypical physics nerd who's a bit shy think it's not too big. Some parts are a little rough if you come from somewhere quiet, but i've only heard of this. Got an awesome club scene for all types of music, a good music scene (the music venues are great), loads of bars and pubs for everyone.

Loads of shops, not too busy like london, decent transport links, I actually really love it as a place, and i know students there now from other places who loved it. It is the capital of the North afterall :biggrin:

I've heard GCSEs dont really count anyway, and i'm not just saying that to make myself feel better as i probably did better in them than at AS :frown:

Probably due to the fact because they were easy, but there was a lot of work it forced me to work, whereas at A-level i could breeze through most of the year.
Also, at AS, getting an A is basically saying "yeah, you've done alright", whereas a B is sub-par for high-aiming people, and not just oxbridge!
