Eletrophile vs Neclophile

Hi,

I ALWAYS the two the wrong way around, I know one is an Electron Pair donor and the other an Electron pair acceptor ?

How can I make sure I get it the right way around ? Does anyone have a good rhyme ?

Cheers

a nucleophile is an electron pair donor
Phile indicates love for something.

Hence, nucleophile indicates something that is nucleus loving.

Only a negative species could love something as positive as a nucleus :sexface:

Nucleii are positively charged.
Electrons are negatively charged.
Phile = to like.

Nucleophiles are attracted to positive charge, electrophiles are attracted to negative charge.

From that you can infer that nucleophiles are electron donors, and electrophiles electron acceptors.
