How to deal with TV licensing people at your door?

Finally someone who sees sense. The TV License is nothing more than a big con. I would be inclined to pay it if it went to the running of all channels (rather than just the BBC) but it doesn't.

In regards to your incident with them, perhaps next time when they ask if you live there kindly ask them who they are representing. If they then say TV Licensing, shut the door in their face. If they then knock again, answer the door and say pointedly, "No thank you." If they still won't leave after that then tell them firmly that you will not be harassed in your own home and if they continue then you will call the police.

They have no right to look around your home (or even into it through a ground floor window), no matter what rubbish they tell you. They do not have a warrant and they are not the law. They are a private organisation making money out of harassing people and convincing them they're criminals.

To be honest, I'm surprised they're still around as if any other company did that then they'd be shut down straight away.

You should really know what you are talking about before you post on a subject you know nothing about. Having a TV licence is not LAW, it is in fact an ACT of parliament that needs your consent. No consent, no problem.

Simplest thing to do is make a slight alteration to your TV if you ever need to let them in. For example pop out the fuse from the plug and when they go to test if it receives any channels it won't even turn on. They can't make any repairs etc, so leaves you in the clear.

I very very very rarely watch live TV, but my television is able to receive the channels. I do not believe I should have to pay such a large amount for something I don't use.

I pay the TV licence when I have a TV but at University I've never had one and their letters are frankly awful. I rang them up once and told them I didn't have a TV and to leave me alone and they did - but of course the moment you move house it starts all over again.

...don't understand people refusing to pay though. Come on people.

Today a guy came to my house and he was asking for some guy and I told him that person doesn't live here and he said asked me for my surname then my first name and I did tell him ( I regret that) and then he said that he was from the TVL and asked if I had tv in the house but I lied and said I don't even have a tv and he said okay, his gonna update his records and maybe do a visit to make sure I'm telling the truth.

I'm worried, what shall I do if he comes back and he has my name what's gonna happen
