Answer it naked next time and start wind milling while looking them directly in the eyes. I'm sure they will stop coming back after a few times.

Finally someone who sees sense. The TV License is nothing more than a big con. I would be inclined to pay it if it went to the running of all channels (rather than just the BBC) but it doesn't.

In regards to your incident with them, perhaps next time when they ask if you live there kindly ask them who they are representing. If they then say TV Licensing, shut the door in their face. If they then knock again, answer the door and say pointedly, "No thank you." If they still won't leave after that then tell them firmly that you will not be harassed in your own home and if they continue then you will call the police.

They have no right to look around your home (or even into it through a ground floor window), no matter what rubbish they tell you. They do not have a warrant and they are not the law. They are a private organisation making money out of harassing people and convincing them they're criminals.

To be honest, I'm surprised they're still around as if any other company did that then they'd be shut down straight away.

Loool about being harrassed in your own home. Made me laugh 😄

You should really know what you are talking about before you post on a subject you know nothing about. Having a TV licence is not LAW, it is in fact an ACT of parliament that needs your consent. No consent, no problem.

You really don't understand how the government and the law work do you?

Laws are created by acts of parliament, and they most certainly don't need your consent to apply to you. Where did you get that idea from?

My view is that if you can't afford the tv licence the you should probably sell your tv as its clearly having a detrimental effect on you. No good can come from sitting in front of a telly.

Read a book, learn something, socialise. You'll become a better person for it.

I help blind people see...
Agree with the posters who say they have no right of entry - they don't - and they work for Capita, not a government agency. Researched this when working on an article for Watch My Wallet online mag.

If they come back, start filming them with your phone on the doorstep and tell them you're recording the conversation to protect yourself from harassment. I have iPlayer on my laptop and you not need a licence to watch catch up programmes on this service, neither do Capita have any right to `inspect your receiving equipment.' So tell them to jog on.

We already pay more than enough tax to fund a state broadcaster, without a separate tax system just for TV channels.

People seem to be forgetting that the LAW requires you to have a tv licence if you have a tv! You can't pick and choose the laws you wish to obey, however unpopular that law may be.

I take it your an ex copper with your snooty comment you jumped up little runt.I bet that you don't even have one because your too busy going around telling everyone what the LAW is.People like you make me want to '@*^?~** scream.YouTosser

The funny thing is they even got the law wrong. You don't require a license for owning a TV set.
Simplest thing to do is make a slight alteration to your TV if you ever need to let them in. For example pop out the fuse from the plug and when they go to test if it receives any channels it won't even turn on. They can't make any repairs etc, so leaves you in the clear.

I very very very rarely watch live TV, but my television is able to receive the channels. I do not believe I should have to pay such a large amount for something I don't use.

I have reasons for creating a new account, not of which is a desire to hide. Neg away, watch me care...

Doesn't change the fact It's a matter of the law...

there is absolutely no law requiring anyone to buy a licence. As someone else as said, it's a bullying campaign that's been going on since the 50s. The only reason it's still going is because a lot of big players have their hands in the pockets of the BBC, and they want that money to continue to come rolling on in.

To anyone who is paying for or is thinking of paying for a licence, please for the love of god do some research. A good place to start is Youtube and http://www.bbctvlicence.com/

Im mostly a law abiding citizen. However I do allow myself the limited freedom to break ONLY ONE law. As that law is speeding, I have to pay for the TV license even tho I mostly watch stuff on my computer.

Remember they have to proof you are using it to watch tv, no need to disable the tv temp. For example you can just say you use it for ps3/Xbox and if it has no Ariel or set top box they can do little to nothing. Just make them wait if you do ever let them in while you hide the set top box/pull out the Ariel

I pay the TV licence when I have a TV but at University I've never had one and their letters are frankly awful. I rang them up once and told them I didn't have a TV and to leave me alone and they did - but of course the moment you move house it starts all over again.

...don't understand people refusing to pay though. Come on people.

The last time I had these jokers knock on my door:

TVLA
Good afternoon sir! How are you?

me
Can I help?

TVLA
Yes, you don't have a TV licence

me
Are you from the TVLA?

TVLA
Yes sir, I am

me
Show me some credentials...

*TVLA inspector shows me his ID badge*
me
Nah... doesn't look legit to me. I'm going to have to ask you to leave.

*shut door*

I didn't actually have a TV at the time.

Lucky I didn't have one letter at all last year or so far this year while at uni. And some people refuse to pay since there is only crap on TV, I don't even watch live tv these days so I can't really say if it's improved.

Today a guy came to my house and he was asking for some guy and I told him that person doesn't live here and he said asked me for my surname then my first name and I did tell him ( I regret that) and then he said that he was from the TVL and asked if I had tv in the house but I lied and said I don't even have a tv and he said okay, his gonna update his records and maybe do a visit to make sure I'm telling the truth.

I'm worried, what shall I do if he comes back and he has my name what's gonna happen

If he comes back and demands entry to your house you tell him to **** off unless he has a warrant.
The last time they knocked I told them I was revoking their implied right to access and the guy got really angry. Then they refused to listen to that so they come and knocked again.

The second time they knocked I opened the door straight away and looked back into the main room and shouted 'please grab daddy's shotgun' and the TV license man run away and fell over the hedge with his clipboard in the garden. I couldn't stop laughing about it all day and 2 of my flatmates were up in one of the bedroom windows watching it. It was the funniest thing I've ever seen.

The best thing is I dont have a child or a shotgun. I was just bluffing to scare the guy because he ignored my request and they kept turning up knocking which is basically harassment.

He then come back with a warrant and found I didn't have a television anyway. Sucks to be this guy.
