A great tip , that you may not havee been taught ! If you want to score them hih marks use SYNOPTIC LINKS .for example : Men are able to commit more crimes as they have partiachal control over womens unpaid domestic labour. This could have a synoptic link to how men pay the instrumental role in the family.

You can link many concepts back to the family and eduation from units 1 & 2 !! hope that helpsss good luck guysss xxx

can we use synoptic links in the crime and deviance questions? my teacher has only mentioned them in the thoery questions!

I think gender is not very likely to come up as it has already been in the exam, but yh labelling has good chances of coming up as well as globalisation or may be suicide. For the 33 marker i would say either interactionism or functionalism. The methods questions is harder to say but the context may be something around coorporate crime, green crime or court proceedings as it hasnt come up yet....

this link should take you to the new specimin paper with the two 21 mark crime and deviance quesrtions!

Is this how you set out a 33 marker? =/

a. Outline the topic, basic values. What they believe in overall, outline keywords, intro to what I’m going to do

1. Outline the first theory, who are they, and what they basically believe in
1) Outline the second theory, who are they, and what they basically believe in

2. A theorist who agrees with this theory and outline their views as well.
2) A theorist who agrees with this second theory and outline their views as well.

3. What other theories do they reject?
3) What other theories do they reject?

4. Criticise.
4) Criticise.

5. Evaluation of this theory> Strength and Weakness

What do you guys think the 33 marker will be on
I gotta feeling it might be sociology is a science

yeh same, my teacher predicted that may come up aswell, however, theories are probably much more likely to come up. Hope socilogy as a since comes up though lol

just so you guys know if no ones already told you - sociology as a science is the 33 marker on the specimen paper. so it's probably unlikely to come up

on the specimen paper there was also ethnicity, media and theory in contexts question i can't remember

Yeah I'm aware
Suppose you can't really predict at all coz there's so many topics yet to be tested on hopefully it'll be goods one

yeah id say thats about right, my teacher hasnt really given us any advice on structure as such, shes basically told us to include anything we possibly can as they can give us marks for anything we include!
Ok now I feel like doing Stratification & differentiation instead of Crime & deviance cos I just had a peek at it and it looks so much better! And I've barely learnt anything in lessons on C&D since September.. dunno what to do

I think stuart hall wrote policing the crisis, he is a radical maxist and his study is about how the 'young black mugger' got crimilaised as a result of a crisis in capitalism in the 70's. theres a good explanation in the 'sociology in focus' textbook

I'm bit confused
In the exam do we write our own opinion?

no, it's irrelevant. even if you backed your opinion with an author like "i believe gender differences in crime rate is because of different socialisation, which is backed up by the sex role theory by Sutherland" it is just wasting time. and then you would kind of have to argue your own point which is not the aim of the essay and will interfere with your conclusion.

remembering the study is more important than remembering the name of the author so yes. it's better to refer to the study by saying a sociologist or a marxist/functionist/feminist etc. and explain the case rather than leaving it out because you can't remember their name!
