What is it like in Oxford Brookes?

I'm from Newcastle Upon Tyne and I'm thinking of studying Physiotherapy there as I heard it's a good university. I'm kinda nervous in applying because its such a long way from my family and relatives...And I'll probably get homesick  .

Here are some questions I would like to know;

If anyone studies Physio there, what is the course like?

Are the university accommodations good; and what sort are recommended?

Are there any good shops nearby? as I love shopping!

Is it easy to make friends? he he I know this is a stupid question, but are there any gatherings that help you meet people from all course?

What the best part about the uni?

What's the worse... ? I like to know people's opinions

Thanks and any helpful advice is appreciated!

Shopping nearby is great, only downside for me personally is the lack of H & M! But it has all the popular shops you could want and the shopping area is all nice and old, I really like it.

From what I can see, all the accommodation is really nice but Cheney is the most popular I think maybe because it's the newest and most modern, also en-suite, however it is the most expensive. I'd go for the accom. that is closest to wherever you would be studying (Marston Road site) which would be Morrell Hall, Paul Kent and Cheney (I think).

The rest I can't help you with, I'm off to Brookes tomorrow maybe I can let you know in a few days!

Well, I've been here for 4 days now and i've had the chance to meet loads and loads of people every day and every night. Making friends is really not an issue unless you're either really unlucky or you lock yourself in your room.

Wedge your door open and talk to your flatmates. Make sure you go out with your flat mates whilst it's Freshers' week. If you do that, then no, I doubt you'll have any problems.

couldn't agree more. making your friends makes the homesickness die away very fast, but if u don't hit it off straight away with the people around you, you will eventually be good friends with them. the only problem i can find is the transport system, which is atrociously slow compared to bigger city networks. For a start there isn't a metro/undergound system at all, so all ur travel'll be through the free uni buses, which seemingly decide to come at any time they wish. otherwise there's never really a shortage of things to do around here and the fact you're living alone makes you so much mature and stronger at the end.
and glad to be of help

For physiotherapy? hmmmmm
My Boyfriend is at Brookes and i've always found the Brookes Buses to be pretty good for getting around.

If you find shopping a problem it's only 25 minutes by train to Reading which has amazing shopping. Oxford is pretty good though and i think there are plans to make it even better.

I've lived in Oxford all my life and its a great city to come to uni for. All the halls I've been in have been really nice, especially Paul Kent and Cheney. Cheney is closer to town and if you're going to do Physio then its nearer to the places you'll have lectures. However, My mum works at the hospital and i've heard bad things about the physio dept at brookes... very disorganised etc.. This might just be someones oppinion but thought i'd tell you. I was going to do physio as well but decided against it so i've had a good look around!
Otherwise, Oxfords amazing!! I love it here and kinda don't want to move away for uni.... :frown:

im in my second freshers week at brookes and im absolutely loving it! im also doing the physiotherapy course which from my point of veiw is realli organised! the practicals ave been realli interestin and ive made loads of realli kewl mates alreadi! the freshers fortnight has events on nearly every night so its realli easy to socialise! oxfords easy to get around aswell especially with help of the brookes buses (free to students)! book on an open day and look round its the best way to get an insight!

You can't bring your car to halls. You can bring your car to uni if you rent a house. You don't really need a car. It would be a waste. Everything is within reaching distance and if it isn't, you've got the Brookes buses to take you directly there.
whats the diversity like there btw? i heard its not so diverse.

Racial diversity? If so, take a look at that thread. Don't know where you heard that, but there is an absolute shed load of different races.
