Does anyone study health and social care?

Hi, I'm currently taking a year out but hoping to apply for 2012 for an undergrad in health and social care. I'm wondering what you guys make of the course, are you enjoying it etc?

Thank-you

Ok I've officially started the course last week and now in my second week into NTU and Health and Social Care. Over the past 2 weeks I have been involved in group discussions and now have 2 assignments to do. They do really help you with resources as they put them online on NTU on your student account. And you have to beware of timetable changes every week for example say that they say you have a day off, that might change at the last minute to that you have a for example an hour lecture. Oh and you might have different days off each week for example I don't have any days off until Wednesday 26th October, but then again of course that case might change because they sometimes but in some cases they rarely change your timetable.
At the moment I don't have many lectures (lessons) and seminars (group discussions); some are just literally an hour and some maybe 2-3 hours. There are roughly about more than 100 students on the course this year and we have been put into different groups for the seminars and lectures.
In terms of teaching in buildings in just one lecture there might be roughly about 60-70 students all in one room and you can debate on other students' answers.

Anyway I can't blab on too much so much to talk about but I hope I have given some insight into what the course is like at NTU. But if you do need anymore information you can PM me or just continue this thread.

Can I also ask why you want to study at NTU as well, just curious thats all?

I just saw this message sorry, I got in to NTU today!! Erm the course seems perfect for me, I love how you can chose your year two and three modules, and how you can create your pathway to specialise in. The uni has such a great reputation and I literally fell in love with it on open day.

Congratulations potential NTU Fresher 2012!

Yes you'll love it here the lecturers are very good at teaching (and helping).
Also social wise, you get to meet lots of different people (some are weird in a good way, some are not)
I don't know what I'm going to do for second year arrrghhh! :/ So far I've passed quite a few pieces of coursework for some of the modules (quite high marks ), but first year doesn't count towards the degree I don't think which is a pain but need 40% to pass the whole year to get through to the second year. Don't worry about the workload coursework wise, you'll get 1 for Introduction to Social Policy, 2 for Working with People, 1 for Concepts of Equality and Diversity, 2 for Skills for Study and Practice (and an online referencing test), 2 for Foundations in Health and Social Care and 1 for Individual in Society. There are 3 exams altogether, there might be what they call a "seen" exam which means that you will get to see the exam a month in advance. If you need to know anything else just keep quoting me

EDIT: Oh and forgot to ask, (probably early to ask) but have you thought about accommodation yet and also is NTU your firm?

I know some people who live in Gill Street, its quite nice actually and its straight up from the lecture buildings.

Yes the timetable is very annoying when it changes if last minute changes for example the other day it said i have a free period at 1pm but the at 12:30pm it said I have a lecture! Thats why I'm not looking for another part time job as the timetables are very unpredictable! :/
Plus even if people are in the same course, you won't have the same timetable like you will all have the same lectures, but have different seminar groups and times. But for Introduction to Social Policy lectures, you will be in the same lecture with the Politics students as well, not just Health and Social Care peers.

By the way it says on here you're from Birmingham, which part are you from?

Ohh no, I like routine in my life! So I need a set timetable, and have u done any voluntary work yet? How are we meant to fit that in to the everchanging time table? Yeah I'm from Kingstanding if you've heard of it? x

Well you'll get used to it and I haven't done any voluntary work this year I think I'll do some work experience as my choices for the modules next year.
Yes oh my relatives used to live in Kingstanding.
Anyway is there anything else you need help with?
