Student Prostitution: Myth or Reality?

I've done it myself; only for a brief period when I was unable to find work and was in financially in dire-straights.
I'm sure it happens. Wouldn't really expect any of them to be too vocal about it, though.

I think it's more of a concern at postgrad when fees are paid up front.

I don't know anyone personally, and I feel there are other options. Throughout the 3 years undergraduate level there is time to save for postgrad.

At undergraduate I can understand financial pressure, but at the same time there are FAR too many people I know who go on about how they have no money and yet refuse to get a job.

Prostitution is surely rare, but lap dancing isn't. Most lap dancers I know are actually students (not that I know many!). This isn't a new thing though; my dad used to be a DJ and said all the girls he worked with were students, and this was 30 or 40 years ago. To say it is a new phenomenon would be playing a political game. Being a student has always been financially tough, unstable and stressful; I don't think the coalition's tenure has made any difference.

Yes it does happen.

However should a guy not know of this when he starts dating her he should be on the lookout for signs derived in 'daddy issues'.

The role of a father in life is to make sure his daughter doesn't touch the pole on-stage.

Probably does happen, doubt that it's very common though. I've heard rumours about girls who will sleep with people for tickets to sold out SU events, but I doubt they're true and that's as close as I've personally heard about it.
I fail to see how somebody can be forced into prostitution to pay back their student loans when you don't actually have to pay back your student loans unless you're earning the average wage.

I think people going 'student fees arnt upfront money so therefore it doesnt result in any increase' OPEN YOUR EYES, some people find money and debt extremely stressful, just because your able to sweep the thought of it under the carpet and go - 'oh ill pay later' doesnt mean everyone else is? The costs of living in places like London is ridiculous aswell and I can imagine its very easy to see being an escort as a good financial plan.

Are you suggesting that students are prostituting themselves in order to save up for 5-10 years down the road when they will have to pay back around £20 per week?

With that level of translation skills there's a job at the EU ready and waiting for you.

I don't think chav is an official EU language yet.

I don't know, it seems to be fairly wide spoken through-out England - won't be too long before it becomes our major language.
