blood when i wipe my bum?

i just had a poo and as i wiped my bum the paper was covered in red stuff (i'm assuming it was blood).
it's not my period.
what could it be?

I know this is disgusting but perhaps you pushed too hard, or it was quite large and thats why you bled

It's an anal fissure - should go away on its own.

Caused by over-enthusiastic pushing or not enough fibre in your diet.
