He's playing the victim regarding what was said about his sister (which is harsh) but there are screens of him insulting girls and the like.

Yup, he's a complete tool. Not that it's any justification for the abuse, but still...
Anyone who's been in the YouTube comments for more than 5 seconds has seen more severe insults and threats than this. Heck, malicious stuff is posted anywhere on the Internet all the time. But because an Olympic athlete was the recipient, well, the self-righteous Twitter army (along with the media) got their panties in a bunch and decided to "retweet" like their lives depended on it to track down some loud-mouthed Dorset teen who, while offensize and inexcusably rude, was ultimately harmless. If, as people are saying, the kid was taunting other users for months with death threats and whatnot, this serves to illustrate my point even more--nothing happened until he went after the wrong person.

What did he say that actually got him arrested? Saying "You let your dad down i hope you know that" is not something that warrants an arrest.

He threatened him as well when Tom Daly would not respond to his apologies. He also had written a **** load of tweets/death threats to other people hence the charge of "malicious communication".

The way it is being portrayed however is as though that one comment led to his arrest.
That guy is literally the most hated guy in Britain right now, and probably will be for a while. Serves him right too.

I agree, it's so unfair. Daley's been in two Olympics, and hes 18! Give the lad a rest, he must be gutted as it is.

This. He wasn't arrested because of what he sent to Tom Daley, but because he was threatening to cut peoples throats and come round to their houses and strangle them

Can say all you like about the police having better things to do but it is very satisfying to see people like this arrested. They think they can sit behind their computer screens and get away with it, he thought he was untouchable.

Also, this isn't trolling. This is just being a massive bellend.

This is getting ridiculous. Sure this guy is a moron but if we arrested every moron they'd be few people left.

There are so many cases of people being arrested for stupid tweets its a joke.

High profile people on twitter should expect abuse, they don't necessarily deserve it but there are always idiots willing to give it. There are much bigger issues that the police should be dealing with.

This also sets a very dangerous precedent, what happened to freedom of speech.

And you think the police will actually give 2 ****s if this happened to you? Not even worth contacting them for stuff like this, I've been subject to ABH and they've done nothing.

ABH can include anything from leaving a small bruise. I imagine most people have technically been subject to it.

it's a really bloody useful law for the police to do their job tbh.

Does Twiter not have a 'block user' function?
He was making death threats. What a tit. I hope he regrets this episode in the long term.

This is very satisfying. It should scare other kids who think they're untouchable on the internet.

Its good they arrested him, it shows other people they can't go around abusing other people for their own selfish gain. Tom Dayley did the best he could and Pete Wetherfield. 4th is still good and we will definatley win something on the 10th August.

Including his father like that was so nasty, but leave the haters Id like to see them doing what Tom Dayley does on a daily basis.

It wasn't just to tom daley, there were plenty of other people he was insulting, they just use tom daley on the news because everyone knows him.

This.

I thought celebrities should be used to the concept of blocking and yet they whine and bitch about it. We haven't got time to give a toss for every piece of hate mail, you celebrity poofs. Jesus.
