MA History of Art - 2012/13

Hi all, just wondering if anyone is applying for an MA in History of Art for entry in September?

I've already applied for the Courtauld, and I'm currently considering other options.

I thought it would be interesting to find out what others are doing, as last year's thread was quite informative.

Hi!

I applied for that too! and currently I have offers from York and Glasgow, can't really decide which one to take, because both seem really good and I like both courses! :s-smilie:

Any opinions about those two universities?

Good choices, and well done on the offers (and for being so organised)! At the moment I'm considering UCL, Essex and Glasgow as alternatives, but I'm putting off applying for anything until I hear back from the Courtauld. I'm getting nervous, I really want to know now!

Glasgow is an excellent department. I have friends who did masters there, and they have nothing but good things to say. York I don't know much about, their taught MA doesn't offer modules in my areas of interest, but I know it is well-regarded. I think the York MA (if you're taking the taught degree) would possibly allow more breadth.

Good luck choosing!

Thank you! Well, I want to specialise on the Architectural history and that's why I like York because it has a specialised taught degree. As of Glasgow, it is very focused on Mackintosh and the international art nouveau which I think is a very good thing too. See, choosing between these 2 is impossible! lol

But I have conditional offer from York, have to improve my TOEFL score to 105/120. I have only 95/120 :frown:

Anyway, good luck on your application! I hope good news will come out soon!
Has anyone heard from the Courtauld? Today I received an email stating "we are pleased to inform you that your MA History of Aer application has now moved to the next phase of the admissions cycle. Interviews for hte various application rounds will be conducted over the next six to eight weeks. . . You will be contacted with a final decision about your application no later than 30 March." Has anyone interviewed or been admitted for September 2012 yet? Thanks!

I received the same mail.

Curious: how is everyone preparing for their interview? What should one expect from an interview to a postgrad program? I have no idea what it's going to be like or what they're going to ask!

Hi there, I've applied to the Courtauld, Oxford, York, Newcastle (museum and art gallery studies) and Warwick. So far I've only heard from York with an offer and received the same email from Courtauld. Constantly feels like a waiting game! Hope we find out soon.

Haven't started preparing for an interview - don't want to jinx it - but also have no idea what to expect! I guess I'll research my first choice subject so I can talk about why I want to study it and make sure I can talk about everything on my personal statement!

Good luck everyone!

You applied to Oxford? I thought they didn't offer any HOA course for 2012/13? (I saw it on their website)

edit: sorry it was their MA History of Design that didn't offer any places for 2012/13 application. I feel stupid

Has anyone received an actual interview date and time yet? I am applying to several U.S. schools too. On thegradcafe.com, someone made a notation that they received an interview for their 2nd option on February 8, 2011.

Do you mean for the Courtauld? I received an interview for my 1st option yesterday - the interview itself is next Friday.
Yes, sorry I was not very clear. Do you mind disclosing what your first option is? Mine was Russian Art. Thanks!
My Courtauld interview was done over skype (no webcam, thankfully!). I'd prepared all this stuff but it wasn't really necessary, I think if they've chosen to interview then they pretty much want you, but just want to make sure you're not secretly a nutter.

Hey everyone. So I have applied to Courtauld too. Very nervous about the chances of me getting in since i do not have a BA in History of Art. Do u think that could be a problem, coz I have other art relevant experience. I have written a dissertation on contemporary art and also worked at a contemporary art gallery. Besides i also took some time off and spent the time traveling all over the world to see some fabulous world art (New york, florence, berlin, utrect, amsterdam, buenos aires)
I am also applying to UCL, Goldsmiths, Birkbeck. So far I have gotten an offer from Sothebys and SOAS. Very confused, since SOAS doesn't seem to focus much on Contemporary art. Advice advice!

just checked my email - i received the invitation for interview on 27 Jan. when did you send your application exactly? but don't worry maybe the tutor who's gonna interview you starts a bit late! i can't tell whether it went well or not, the interviewer kept saying "it's interesting" but i guess she was just being polite...

and good luck with your birkbeck interview!

Brownbear 88: If you don't mind me asking, did you interview at the Courtauld this year (i.e. for 2012-2013 admission)? Thanks!
