Orientalism - Said

Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone would be able to offer any arguments to the question "to what extent can orientalism contribute to the study of International Relations?"

Any suggestions appreciated!
My only suggestion is:

Do your own homework.
I would recommend reading Christopher Hitchens' pieces on the topic- he was a personal friend of Said's, although disagreed with him on the argument. The first is a review of Dangerous Knowledge: Orientalism and its Discontents by Robert Irwin (http://prosemiteundercover.phpbbnow.com/viewtopic.php?t=5458&sid=237d83b29b2f6d9927612ea91022d84a) and the second is a review of Orientalism by Edward Said (http://www.theatlantic.com/past/docs/issues/2003/09/hitchens.htm).
You'll be hard-pressed to find a more eloquent take on the matter.
