Confused about points & BTEC

Hiya.

I have finished my first year at college & waiting to return for my final year.

I got my certificate for my first year... overall a pass, but there are 9 units in the first year and I got merit in two of these & passed 7.

So how many points have I gained from my first year? :s-smilie:

Starting to worry abit, as I didn't try my best in first year and need to know how much I have to make up in second year.

Thanks for any help.

heya. I've just finished my btec course and the grading went 6 points for each pass, 12 each merit and 18 each distinction. So with ur marks you should have 66 points. Though it does depend on your number of guided learning hours, mine was a fulltime course and counted in the 60 band so yours should be the same.
To get an MMM you need 180 points. i wouldnt worry if i was you though in my opinion btec was quite easy to get a good grade in, i didnt try that hard in my second year, too easily distracted and i ended up getting DDM so you'll be fine :biggrin:

Hiya, thanks for the reply that was really helpful! Yeah mine is the full time aswell for learning hours... Kinda worrying more now though, 66 is low! haha but I'll just do better in the second year.

How do they work out the final grading at the end like DDM, MMM etc? Like how do they put it into three grades?

I'm so clueless with all of this :s !

No problem :smile: They work out the final three grades by the number of points you get. when i was at college my head of course gave me a sheet that gave all the points and their equivalent grades and what they are as UCAS points.
108-131 points = PPP = 120 ucas points
132-155 = MPP = 160 ucas points
156-179 = MMP = 200 ucas points
180-203 = MMM = 240 ucas points
204-227 = DMM = 280 ucas points
228-251 = DDM = 320 ucas points
252-324 = DDD = 360 ucas points

There's no need to worry even if you just work hard enough to get merits you'll still get an MMP comfortably with 1 or 2 distinctions you'll get MMM which for 4 of my choices was the entry requirement :biggrin: Hope that helps you :smile:

<Cx, You started Sept 10 I assume. I hope this helps.
D=9
M=8
P=7
the units are with 10
2*8*10=160
7*7*10=490
810points
sorry

Kpusa1981, did it wrong
<3x, you nine Ds next year than you would have 8*2=16*10=160 & 7*7= 49*10=490 which is 650 last year and this and next year if 9*10=90 90*10=900; 650+900=1550 D*DD

If you got 6 Ds and 3 Ms 9*6=54 54*10=540 8*3=24 24*10=240 540+240=780 490+780=1370 MMP

For this year you 650 BTEC earned points.
What subject are you doing?

Really not understanding all this tbh haha.

You figure the overall grade in new BTEC qualification.
Which really goes like this:
P=7 which you multiply that 10 credits
M=8 " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " "
D=9 " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " "
Than you add each unit up to get.
In your case to this point
7*10= 70 70*7= 490
8*10= 80 80*2= 160
490+160= 650
next year
8*10= 80 80*9= 720
650+720= 1370
1370 MMP
MMP = 200 UCAS points BB A-level
or
90*10= 900
650+900= 1550 D*DD
D*DD = 380 UCAS points A*AA or A*A*B
That is the best can do.

Hey, I just finished doing BTEC National Diploma in Business Level 3 about two months ago.

Pass = 6 BTEC points
Merit = 12 BTEC points
Distinction = 18 BTEC Points

You currently have 66 BTEC points at the end of year 1.

108-131 = PPP = 120 UCAS points
132-155 = MPP = 160 UCAS points
156-179 = MMP = 200 UCAS points
180-203 = MMM = 240 UCAS points
204-227 = DMM = 280 UCAS points
228-251 = DDM = 320 UCAS points
252-324 = DDD = 360 UCAS points

If you want to secure a place in any decent universities I advise on getting DMM and above.

In order to get DMM (280 UCAS points) you need to achieve at least 138 BTEC points in your second year. This is just above double your BTEC points from your first year.

I achieved DDM (320 UCAS points). I created a blog to help students on the course and allow them access to my two years worth of coursework, it also has some tips that I thought would be useful.

Good luck! :smile:

The grading for who started September 2010 which is different and goes this way.
10 times the number of points earned and than multiplied by number of times you get 9,8, and 7. Lastly you add up the subtotals.
9x10=90 90x6=540
8x10=80 80x9=720
7x10=70 70x3=210
540+720+210=1470 BTEC points DDM
UCAS Points 320 DDM equiv. AAC or ABB

UNDER THE OLD SYSTEM
18x6=108
12x9=108
6x3=18
108+108+18=234 BTEC Points DDM
UCAS Points 320 DDM equiv. AAC or ABB
