Research design

I think I'm having a dumb moment but if someone is trying to find out whether young children describe themselves differently to older children and they did interviews with kids to find out, what research design would that be? It's not experimental, it's not correlational, I don't really know what it is.

Any help would be appreciated.
It is a straightforward interview. 'Design' only applies to experiments and correlations.

Yeah, I thought that, it just seems like it's not worth having 'design' as a separate section in the report if it's just qualitative interviews.
