I will be attending an interview too.

Can anyone explain all the sensory test (hearing test, sight test and smell) test in more detail?

How can you tell the difference between lemon and mint and water in the smell tests?

What will I be required to hear in the hearing test?

I am deaf and am worried about the hearing test more than the others.

Please offer any hints or advice.

Thank you very much.

you will have sight and smell tests. it would be mint water, lemon juice (i got that anyway) and plain water. if you cant tell the difference between them you shouldn't be applying.

I didn't get a hearing test. If you are deaf personally I would advise you not to go forward as this is security when communication is key.

If you don't mind saying, what did the training consist of?

Loads of powerpoints lol
They went through what is a door supervisor, duty of care, first aid, communication etc. That was for the first 2 days. They always hint what will be in the test e.g "you lot need to write that down, cos you're gonna need it"

They show some honorific videos as well (well it depends how strong your stomach is). Basically showing what NOT to do. The worst one was a bomb going off in a crowd and a football stadium fire.

They show and tell you worst case scenario, but keep reminding people that the main duty of the Olympics will be customer service.

Day 3 is a recap and 3 multiple choice papers (really easy)
Day 4 is Physical intervention training. (how to show a non-aggressive stance, how to break away from someone who has grabbed you and how to escort someone out, in a hold). The test of this is you have to preform one of the manoeuvres in front the camera. If you get it wrong, they just correct you and record it until you get it right

long (sometimes boring) days, but useful info and pretty easy

Hope that helped

Personally I'd say being deaf shouldn't limit you applying, and they will give you a role that is suitable. I am hearing, but I've studied British Sign Language. So i say go for it, just let them know on the application form.

Yes, thanks  So the training is only four days?

Yeah the door supervision training (NVQ qualification) is 4 days. I believe if at the interview they see potential they may send people for specialist training, like X-ray machines etc.

i did the training back in early december and had my interview on jan 25th but i havent heard back about either of them, anyone know why this might be?
Mines this Monday

My tutor also informed us that a surprising number of people have been turned away due to not having all the correct paperwork or not having filled it all in properly. It's common sense, but just make sure you take all the right paperwork you get of the site

Ah I see, thanks. The only information I've received about it is an e-mail stating the location and time of training. Have you done all your training?

I done my SIA course last week, so i should be getting results on that soon, i believe the next training will be regarding the role you are given.

i booked mine thursday 10:30 i hope it will go well, any particular questions they asked during the interview. Y G4, what do you know about G4, how to handle conflict situation..
Going for my interview next week hope it doesn't take too long. Although I'm not sure if my chances are decreased as I opted to choose whether I work for more than 48 hours in the week or whatever that employee law was so I don't know if this will effect whether they choose me.

Applied for this on a whim quite a few months ago and at the time I didn't know what the job would entail. Got a phonecall from them a few days ago asking me to book an interview. Only just realised it's a security job... I'm a girl, 5'1, bit thin, incredibly weak, got no muscle. Would I have any chance of getting the job??

You shouldnt think like that at all, ive done the sia training and the trainers there said that it dont matter how short tall build you are..i learnt alot from the training, there were girls/women there too so go for it. They teach you how to prevent crime and esclation and control security stuff like that, theres three exams and last day you are taught pyschical intervention, how to defend, escort, remove, the correct duties of a DS, its a long process but good.
