I'm starting an IT job next September, but I don't think I'll be staying there forever. What are the best professional qualifications you can have on your CV that improve your attractiveness to employers ?

Totally depends on what area you're working in.
For a good general overview, alot of places look for MCPs - usually an MCITP in either desktop or servers. VCP for virtualisation is pretty popular as is Cisco qualifications for networking.
Software development is one area in IT where professional qualifications don't get you very far - employees will almost always favour candidates with previous development experience.
I'm interested in desktop application development, in languages like C#.
Poster above is true to be honest.. in application development there aren't that many useful qualifications - I would advise you to work on a few projects and create a portfolio. ISEB covers a few aspects of development; testing and solutions development. There is a lot of certs to do with project management if that interests you; PRINCE2 and PMP are the most well known.
