As KBr is IR inactive it won't effect the spectrum - it's just a normal IR spectrum :smile:

im currently tryin 2 identify mass spectrum peaks.
any ideas as to what the following peaks could be?

141?

the formula for the compund is C6 H4 OH COOH. Is that salicyclic acid or something?

Definitely a phenol with a carboxylic acid. It could most likely be salicylic acid where the OH and COOH are ortho to each other. But you can't know this for sure from mass spec or IR alone - have to use NMR.

138 is the molecular ion so the peak at 141 must be due to isotopes (maybe 18O, and/or 13C etc)

Look at the m/e 45

now count up [COOH]+

coincidence?

i thought th 81 may be hbr or something, 45 = cooh , but theres all the rest, and i dont get it.... considering weve been given the formula (which i thouhgt was salicyclic acid), do all the peaks need analysin, if so, what r they? im sooo confused...
