Onyxia's Lair of discussion for World of Warcraft

Right, there are lots of World of Warcraft threads being made at the minute (a new one every few days, roughly), so I've merged a few of the recent ones together. Please try to keep all World of Warcraft discussion to this thread

I know there are a lot of threads about world of warcraft already - but not many are really about the game, but rather how addictive/pointless it is.

Well this is for those of us who don't care if it's rather pointless to our lives. So it watching the simpsons, but it's fun (like simpsons) which is all that matters!

So how many characters do you all have? What race/class/spec/level are they all? I'm actually a total newbie so if some WoW gamers come in here I could get some tips.

I'm a level 18 warrior tauren, one handed axe and shield, prot spec.

Got me my first blue last week, for when I go up one more level, so I can own PvP at level 19! http://www.thottbot.com/i12997

Actually, what use would my character be in PvP? Because of his health would be be able to capture the flag or is that best left for somebody a bit quicker than a Tauren? I have crap DPS really...

unless youre on a new server, there will be many 'twinks' at level 19 and you will get owned in pvp

these twinks spend about 500-1000g on the best gear they can get with expensive enchants to make them very imbalanced at that level, they probably already have alot of pvp experience from playing on their main characters which would put you at another disadvantage (if this is your first char)

you can get rogues with 95% passive dodge etc

just focus on levelling up and pvp at 70 imo

Having a shield is no use in PVP for a warrior, and don't go protection spec. It'll make you have crap DPS and you'll level slowly because of it. Google for some talent tree guides, or check the warrior forums on WoW site.

yeah i recommend speccing full arms for levelling, you dont need a shield
I've already started now though... some prot is actually DPS anyway, focused rage is one of the best DPS things out there (3 less rage needed for all attacks, with improved sunder armour I'll be doing them for 9 rage!!) One handed weapon specialisation...

I'm not concerned about PvE troubles and slow grinding, I see 1-70 as being as fun as end game raiding, no need to rush. I'd just like to be able to PvP a bit too.

But I do intend to have a frost mage DPS'ing the hell out of everyone, I guess he will satisfy my PvP needs!

I'm gonna stick to prot, hope I don't regret it too much...

What characters do you guys have anyways? Any mages or hunters cos I'm interested in those too. Or are warlocks/shamans better than hunters...?

Hi Tis Me Lord,

I have a level 70 Dwarf Hunter on Thunderhorn server. Hunter's are pretty good fun, especially for PvP. The only thing I don't really like is they are quite common, because they are one of the easier classes to level, having the pet during quests gives you a big advantage.

You've made a good move being a warrior, although if you don't mind me saying, i think your spec'ing protection quite early. You'll probably begin to struggle with quests, and you could quite easily tank instances lvl 1-60 being fury/arms.

Though from 60-70, the instances become a lot harder, and a prot warrior would be highly valued for level 70 instances, and in high demand for groups, you wouldn't have any problems finding runs.

With regards to PvP, I would try to avoid it until the 30-39 bracket. Like the above poster mentioned, there are a lot of twinks in the battlegrounds, most of them have high level mains which is where they get all their funding from.

If you want any more help just ask or PM me.

ps. Just noticed you live in bath aswell

HA im also on the thunderhorn server, play a mage which i got to 62 then got addicted to draenei so leveling a shammy , but if i were you get out of the prot spec till your 60+ maybe even 70 you'll level slower and there no need for that.

Also for leveling advice, there are a few free leveling guides out there which give step by step guies to what quests to do in what order, or you can buy one, i have one a mate bought which i use and ive managed to get from 20 - 34 in a few days which aint too bad.

Or personally, scrap the warrior and play a fun class lol. shammy/mage/rogue/druid/warlock are the fun ones, dont go hunter... there are so bloody many and im sick of em, we don't need anymore legolassssss's lol

hey.

70 Warlock Alliance. Pretty hardcore guild, with Kael'thas killed last night.

great hobby, love it. I dont watch Tv, this fills my spare time

Jamies Alliance levelling guide is a good guide for Alliance. just google it.
Pfft, everybody without fail is warning me not to prot spec 'cos I'll level up slowly. I went from 18 to 21 in the last few days without playing much, I still kill things above my level quickly, and if I aggro lots of people I can run away and not die, 800 health for a level 21 isn't bad.

Been working on my blacksmithing a bit, on 127 at the moment and have half a dozen level 16 green trousers in the bank ready for AH one by one. At 145 blacksmithing I can make my first blue, hooray!

Warlocks seem pretty cool, I might try one of them instead of hunter. Good for PvP too which I think I need to give up on really with my warrior, I tried some as a level 19 and I never died, but I did hardly any damage either.

Still not understanding power levelling, this game is too fun to rush!

Its entirely up to you what you want to spec mate, if you feel you are killing mobs at a satisfactory pace then thats all that matters.

Keep up the good work.

I often look upon WoW players with pity. Spending their lives levelling up an imaginary character. Then I look at myself and realise Im doing the exact same thing, but in Ivalice or Spira.
I'm with TML on the whole 'level at your own pace thing'

There is so much game content and so much fun to be had, why fast-track to 70? This game has got to keep me going all the way though uni, so I ain't rushing.

Oh, and if anyone wants to know, I'm a level 44 Nelf Hunter by the name of Assaye on Kul Tiras. Beast Mastery spec, with a little Marksmanship thrown in (just improved concussive shot, which IMO is excellent for PvP!). I also have my cute level 11 Tauren Druid called Snugglebunny on the same server, who will be played alongside TML's Warrior once I kick him off my account and level her up to his level.

Hey, I know you've been told that Protection is a poor spec for levelling by a few people earlier on, but have you tried Arms/Fury yet? It's a lot more fun to play, and as you say you're killing mobs quite fast right now as a Prot warrior, you should kill thinks twice as fast. The +5% crit in the first tier of Fury is essentia for low levels, because it makes a big difference compared to the normal crit rate for that level. (I've got a level 48 warrior alt, and I've experienced the incredible difference in damage).

If you were willing to try and respec your talent points (only costs 1g at the warrior trainer), I would suggest starting with Fury Dual Wield spec. and see how you like it.

Also if anyone's interested I play Bloodscalp 70 Tauren Druid called Card.

I have been tempted by the 5% crit, I might actually do that at my next 5 levels. But I'm still determined to stick at protection, Schmokie can DPS with her cat anyway when she's a level 20.

Well, my first tip is to spec Feral, and NOT resto (the big mistake that I made when I levelled from 1-60  ).

Go for gear with plenty of Strength and Agility on it if you're powering your cat side.

If you have any talent questions, feel free to PM me.

(Also, sorry for the double post, didn't realise it worked the first time and ended up doing it again)

As JjrShah said, level as feral. Until you're pretty high level you won't be able to get good enough gear to make speccing balance worth it, and resto is not good for levelling. Basically pick any talents in the feral tree that increase your crit chance and reduce the cost of your attacks - the most important being Heart of the Wild, Leader of the Pack and right at the end of the tree, Mangle. For damage, use cat form with lots of strength and agility gear, and use gear with plenty of stamina and armour if you want to tank instances in bear form.

As for the warrior thing; definitely try arms or fury and you'll find yourself killing things much faster. My brother plays a level 63 arms warrior and he can kill two same level mobs at the same time before the cooldown on charge has even run out.

I play a level 70 feral druid myself (on Moonglade) - not done any raids yet but I'm running most of the high end instances and my pre-heroic tanking set is almost complete now.

Way ahead of you with speccing Feral  definitely want my 40-point talent at lvl 50. And am working towards having two armor sets; gunna stick with one full of intellect for my casting self (what would be a good second stat here? Stamina? Is agility any good for casters' ranged attacks?) and one for my cat self, as TML will be doing all the tanking.

Will probably be back here with some more specifi talent queries soon
