I'm filling in a form to be a rep at my uni. Along with where you have to put down two references, it says 'capacity known'. What does this mean?

In what capacity do you know them? Friend/family (ideally not), tutor etc...
It means how do you know this person (referee). Like Doctor, Teacher, etc.
