No idea why people would buy a laptop and Ipad, it should be Desktop and Ipad.

Or just a laptop, unless your course demands a desktop ie: a games course, or you're a hardcore gamer

I've seen people lugging around desktops back home or having to leave their desktop at uni(over the holidays) because it's too much of a hassle to take back home, and then having no computer for around 3 weeks or so

I see no need for an ipad

What was wrong with this list? Why is it being negged so much?

This thread seems to be the usual TSR thing - admit you have some nice things - blazing negs. Claim you can do it all for a fiver plus Tesco points - pos'ed.

probably cos most of the stuff on that list is not a gadget!

Its not a problem for people who can afford to spend £300 on headphones ... Jealous much?

It's not about jealousy at all. It's more you flouting your money. Let's just say that I could afford to buy the £300 headphones many times over, however that doesn't mean that I WILL do so. I can afford to buy Macbooks several times over, but it doesn't mean that I WILL do so. Just because someone can afford something, it doesn't mean that they have to buy it

If any thing, if I see someone with £300 headphones, I think either a) They're buying in to the marketing b) They're flouting their money or c) They don't know how to handle their money and spend it on useless junk

Or a mixture of the three

I work loads and have plenty of money, I just prefer it to be sat in the bank than wasting it on something I can get for 5% of the price. Can go on an extra holiday for the same price. How anti-social have you gotta be that you want to buy headphones that cancel out all noise imaginable?! Lame.
Lets face it... who the hell needs 10 gadgets at uni?

1) laptop
2) phone
3) speakers
4) mp3
5) camera
6) external hard drives...

That's me done...

Here's mine:

1.

Pendrive(s). Some people only need one. People like me, who'd lose their head if it wasn't screwed on, need at least three.

:colondollar:

I only have one, but I do keep losing them, but this is why you have backups and specifically online backups
a bandalier made of condoms [if anyones seem van wilder freshman year, like that one]

Yeh but thats like saying why buy an iPad when you can buy those unbranded £60 cheap chinese tablets which serve the same purpose ...

No, it's like saying why buy an iPad when you can buy a branded Chinese/Korean tablet which serve the same purpose

You do NOT need an iPad. Do you think people are made of money? I agree an ebook reader can be useful but a kindle will do that job fine and is a fraction of the price.

Or you can be more organised and not leave it to the last minute to print something off?

Don't necessarily need speakers either.

Hard drive depends on the person. I do need one because I have a ton of tv/movies but others don't. Not forgetting torrents aren't usually allowed in university owned accommodation which I presume is how you meant they'd get such a large amount of data.

wow you sound fun ! :colonhash:

My friend has a blowtorch, solely for creme brulee :P

I think everything useful has already been mentioned, so I'll just leave it at that :colone:

None of the other tablets are in the same league as the Ipad tbh.
With phones apple has some competition though.

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about, and haven't bothered to take a look at the significantly better offerings of other companies.

Just your typical apple user then....
Laptop for essays. Debit card for food. Knife because most situations are made easier with one. Smaller knife so when you're bored you can pretend to be a doctor and deliver the little baby knife for the big mommy one.

Perhaps, though then you ask why do you actually need this "retina technology"? Plenty of others do similar jobs

4G doesn't even work in the UK either - well, parts of London have it on trial but that's about it

You don't really need gadgets, but you do need a laptop that won't break on you (unlike mine!). Get one that you know has lots of positive reviews (and not from PC world). Get a couple of USB sticks. Oh and a good student bank account, if that can count as a gadget

1 good laptop

2 reasonably large memory sticks (4-8GB)

1 external hard drive - to store the masses of movies/tv shows you'll watch in your spare time

1 pair of 2.1 (atleast) speakers - i.e the ones with a sub and two satelite speakers - v. handy for hall parties

1 Phone - any will do, Android preferred

1 iPad - very good for storing PDF books instead of buying them (uni books are a rip-off)

1 Printer - there'll be a day when you thank yourself for buying a printer as you print off the last page of your 3000 word essay 7 minutes before the deadline

1 Swiss army knife w/ bottle opener - every student needs a bottle opener

1 Shoulder Bag

1 HDMI cable - so you can link your laptop to the communal TV to stream 'match-day' and 'movie night'

What??? Are you storing porn or what? Word documents occupy minimum space so anything of at least 1GB is okay.
