Bishop Grosseteste University Lincoln - PGCE Primary

Hiya. There seems to be no university forum for this university and it doesnt seem to be well known. I have a interview for this uni for PGCE Primary in 2 weeks and wondered if anyones been to this uni or had an interview for PGCE Primary with them? I just wanted to know what the uni was like as well as the interview. I didnt post this in the 'i am applying for a PGCE' thread or questions for interview cos its not just about the questions. So anyone know whether this uni is any good?!

I know a couple of people currently doing their Primary PGCE at Bishop Grots this year, and they are enjoying it. I considered applying there, and went to an open evening last year. I was impressed with the facilities on offer and they seemed very organised. They have a massive amount of PGCE students though, about 200 in all, and I couldnt decide if this was a good or bad thing. Good luck!

At least one person on here has heard of it lol. That puts my mind to rest a little. Was kinda hoping more people had some experience or have heard of it really. Thanks
It's a fantastic University, I know a few people who are studying there and they love it. It's not well known because it specialises in educational studies (i think) and it's over shadowed by the University of Lincoln just down the hill.

I've got an interview there in about a week and very nervous. Good luck! x

I did a bit of googling and i realised that might be the case! I just wasnt sure if it was a decent uni since like you said lincoln uni overshadows it and I couldnt find any comments online that would give me an idea of how good it is. Ive got an interview in about a week too and nervous. Im dreading the presentation thing lol, thank you and good luck to you too! x
One of my friends did teaching there (degree+PGCE) and really liked it

I was accepted onto the PGCE Primary (7-11) course at Lincoln BG starting this September after my interview there back in February. The staff there seem very helpful and full of knowledge and experience, and the facilities there are superb. It has a strong teacher training heritage and the drop-out rate amongst students is one of the lowest I've seen from my own research. I've met a lot of existing BG students during my work experience at a school in Lincolnshire and they had nothing but praise for the course, saying that the workload was heavy but bearable in comparison to some other students that they had personally met from other unis nearby e.g. Bedford.

Best of luck with your interview  The staff really put you at ease and the atmosphere was very open and friendly, so don't worry too much on that part! If you have any other questions about the interview or anything, just ask.

Im just going to commute at the moment i think, going to see if i can get a school placement nearer to me in nottingham. If it gets too much i may move up for a bit. I cant wait to get the info lol.
Hiya,
Congratulations on getting your PGCE's.
I am doing Upper Primary GTP at BG in September, as its quite similar, and as I understand PGCE and GTP work closely sometimes, it would be nice to get to know people who will be at BG in September xx

I'm in Bourne and I'm planning on commuting too, not the most straightforward commute ever, but with a pinch of luck the placements will be close by - I already know several placement students from BG at schools in the area, so I know it's possible that I could be sent somewhere very close!

Just waiting for some more info to filter down from BG, now. I've done all the document checking / health declaration / CRB stuff now, just want to get cracking!

Hi

I've got my interview next week and I'm soooooo nervous! Stupidly it's the presentation that's bothering me most ( ridiculous seem as I do it regularly at work!) think its the pressure of trying to stand out from everyone elses. Could anyone give me any info on the presentation? I'm in 2 minds whether to do PowerPoint or not and would be grateful to know if most people tend to or not? Bit worried abut the written exercise too as that's punctuation and grammar is probably the area I need to work on most! I can't get over how nervous I am, I'm usually so calm, guess its cause it means so much to me.

Really hope I get a place and get to meet you all in sept! If I do get a place I'll be travelling from sleaford if anyone wants to share x

What I saw from my interview was those who got through to the individual interviews did a variety of different types of presentation. I did a presentation but with about 4 slides, with colour and because one of the criteria was to interact with the audience and i did my presentation on the different types of learners there were in the class i asked the audience to take a minute (since i only had 5 mins and stuck to that time limit) to think about whether they learn through visual, audio or practical (the VAK learning method) and then asked them what they were and just linked it in. What is it about the presentation that is bothering you? Maybe theres a chance you are over thinking the presentation part and just need to go with your instincts? Because one of the criteria was to interact with the audience the other 3 presenting in my group (they split us into groups to present) one didnt use powerpoint and did a bit of a moving around presentation which included the audience, one used music to interact, and the other used powerpoint too. I dont know if you have the same brief that i had. I over thought the presentation and when i did it i did lose my place at one point but i kept going and smiled a lot and i even injected a tiny bit of humour in one or two places (cos im one of those who cant resist having a bit of a laugh lol)

As for the written part i think i spelt a couple of words wrong but i must have done well otherwise i wouldn't have got a place! I've always wanted to be a teacher - its my dream job. I think my passion showed through and (as cliche as it sounds) just be yourself, honest and if you do slip up then just power on through and dont feel downheartened. In the individual interview on one of their questions i honestly said 'im sorry but i dont know how to answer that' but then later on actually answered the question whilst talking about something else. I think they just want to see your human too because in the individual interview they actually asked questions about me as a person (compared to my interview at another uni where they just asked about education and being a teacher)

Thanks for your response pineapple. I think I probably am over thinking it to be honest! My title is: "From your time in school, analyse a teaching session you have observed that you think was particularly effective." it's hard to chose a session as there were so many good ones and it's hard to know what's going to give you the best leads into all the points you need to cover.

I just hope I can get an interview as I'm much better in those situations, but then that 7-10 wait will be a killer!

Thanks for all your help x
