Lady Gaga and the religion of peace.

The religion of peace and tolerance strikes again. Threats of violence by Islamist protesters have forced the cancellation of her Jakarta concert, due to be the biggest one on the Asian leg of her world tour.
I guess its a lesson they learned early on that if you threaten violence, you get what you want. A new low for the predominantly Muslim country's reputation for combining free speech and democracy with a mostly moderate brand of the faith.

Yeah... sad isn't it?

This is the least of Indonesias problems with the religion of peace. Christians are being stopped from going to church by groups of jeering Muslims who turn violent if they are questioned. It makes me glad they aren't growing rapidly in our country.. o wait.
I thought Indonesia was quite tolerant
Christians were blasting her the other week, saying she is Satan, or brings his message or some other rubbish. Shes a LGBT rights campaigner which probably explains it, and I love her. Go Gaga!

Cant wait for the BTW tour UK myself!

I'm more concerned about her horrid music being a global sensation

there is no such thing as a 'religion of peace'
If she has to cancel this tour and I was an Indonesian who had bought tickets I'd be suing the Muslim Ummah to high heaven.

I can find the real message of tolerance through reading Mill's and John Locke's biography, but it doesn't make them generic pop stars.

But that provided little consolation to people like 25-year-old Johnny Purba.

"This only shows to the world how weak security forces are in this country, how police are afraid of a bunch of hard-liners," he said.

"Gaga's two-hour show will not hurt Indonesian Muslims. For God's sake, she is not a terrorist!"

poor dude, genuinely feel bad for the people who were planning to go and can't thanks to some backward morons.

No. Its money grabbing disgusting music, with no real message, no individual though put into the music and just watered down garbage.

EDIT: Downvoted by butthurt fanboys/fangirls.

Oh please, don't be such a hipster. Yes, some of her songs are garbage but Gaga has done an awful lot to promote gay/human rights and she should be applauded for it. Whether she's faking it or not how many other public figures so openly advocate equality?

I called you a hipster because it was evident you were criticising the "mainstream".
I ask you again since you ignored my question, which other public figure has done more to promote gay rights?

You do realise it was only a couple of days ago that Korean Christians were also opposed to her concert since they hated the image of homosexuality and pornography? And some threatened violence whilst others just boycotted and defaced pictures of her.

I don't see a thread on that anywhere. Christianity...religion of peace?

Here were go generlazing again....

Indonesia is the country with most muslims. I have met many Indonesians and my dad has been there many times, and me and my dad can say they are a wonderful bunch of people! they are very humble.

extremists exisit in every country! does that mean were gonna link the whole population with them? i even heard from my Dutch freind that they are the most respectful peopel in the Netherlands and that they get respected alot. Also Indonesia was a Dutch colony and many Dutch and indonesians mixed.

Speaking of Chrisitians and Indonesian extremists, perhaps we should look at Geert Wilders.... He was Indonesian born, has a mixture of Dutch and Indonsian ancestry and is 'christian'. Does that mean we should link all: Dutch, Indonesians and Christians as bad because of him?! dont think so!

I think its ashame about lady gaga about not being able to go Jarkata :frown: I like her and I think the fans who paid to see her, shoudl see her!

What was also interesting was that the Indonesian government demanded Gaga 'tone down' her show. So we can't argue that it's just radicals that had a problem with her.

Sorry to interject, but could you just point out where Geert Wilders threatened to bomb and kill people for doing something he didn't find tasteful? I'd be awfully grateful, as you seem to be equating to him to these Indonesian crazies.
