Warwick PGCE Primary 1st placement

Hi everyone

I have a place at Warwick for PGCE Primary, and just wanted some more info on the week-long placement we organise ourselves. Are there specific tasks etc we have to do during the week, or is it just an observation week? Also, would you recommend going to a school I already know or a new one?

Thanks for any info!

Hey! Sorry I don't have an answer to your question... but just wondered have you had all paperwork etc through for the course? I wasn't sure if we had to organise this ourselves or if the University did it, was hoping they might send us something out with details on

Hi Laura,
I haven't had anything through the post yet, the only things I have done is the CRB and health forms.
We have to sort out the 1 week placement, but am hoping they will send us details as to whether we are just watching or if we have specific tasks to do. I'm not sure if I should go to a school I have volunteered at before or a new one, what do you think?

What specialism are you btw?

Hi, I have a conditional offer somewhere else but we did talk about the first placement at the interview, it may or may not be the same!

I have to organise the placement myself, and was advised that it may be changing to two weeks. They also advised that the placement should be in a different school to the one I currently work in - so I can be more objective I think and not get distracted into doing my old job role.

I have not had any details through either other than the CRB and health forms, but I believe that they set some guidelines for the observations and that they are used for an early essay.

I have just arranged this placement provisionally as my current head teacher is head of more than one school so I will go to one of her others.

Congratulations on your offer and good luck xx

Ah ok great, thanks  And you're a Laura also!

In that case I think I will probably find a school I've not been to before if I can. I think it will be good experience for going into new schools and start getting us used to it! What do you think?

I'm doing the modern foreign languages specialism, how about you?

Yeah I think maybe a new school would be good. I am thinking of going back to a school I have done a fair bit at after my exams in June anyway, just for fun and to get more experience, so somewhere different might be nice in September.
I'm doing the science specialism
Lets hope we get some info through the post soon! I have a bit of an obsession of liking to know things ages in advance lol!!!

Ah great, that's really helpful, thank you. Yes I thought the same about going somewhere different.

Will see if anything comes through over the coming weeks.

Thanks very much and congratulations and good luck to you too! x
