Broadgate Park-ers!

Ok, so most of you that applied for Broadgate Park should have got some form of confirmation by now. Just thought I'd start a thread for anyone coming to the amazing Broadgate Park this year! You might even have your block already - this is just a chance to let everyone know, introduce yourself, etc :smile:

Yepp, I got a confirmation for Broadgate. But, unfortunately I dont know the block yet.

I will do Economics at Notts and my initial expectation as a international student is of course to meet a lot of new people and have a lot of fun :wink:

I realy dont know much of Broadgate Park. But, a friend of mine who finished his first year there told me that the place is superb and he had a great time in his first year. I hope this info is correct and I'll also spend a amazing year at the famous Broadgate :wink:

They're probably still admining about - UPP are pretty slow at these things! I mean, our lease hasn't even finished yet so they're probably waiting for people like us slackers to move everything out and hand our keys in!

Hi All!

Does anyone know what the en-suite studios are like at broadgate park- are they popular amongst many students? Are they part of the general Broadgate community?

Any help appreciated.

Hi mate. Ok, I'm gonna be completely honest with you - I think the studio rooms are probably most suited to postgrads or final years that will need to and want to be in working hard towards their degrees. As a first year undergrad, it's almost definately not worth heading for - you'll miss out on so much, even if it's just socialising with your flat where you make your first friends. I guess people that do venture out will be a part of the Broadgate community but why pay the extra cost? A flat kitchen is just as good - probably better (as you don't have to put up with annoying cooking smells in your sleep) and more sociable.
Sorry, I have been pretty biased here, but a lot of that is worth taking in to consideration.

I should have mentioned that I am in fact a post-grad student, but I still want to be involved with all that goes on (including the partying!).

Would you say that the studio rooms are popular?

Do you know whether Broadgate is made up of any law students and whether it's nearby to the law faculty?

I am also a postgrad and will stay in an en suite at Broadgate Park. I have to agree with Regend that these rooms are for postgrads, cause a friend of mine has just finished its first year at Broadgate Park and he told me that its a must to have en suite when you want a quite and isolate study environment.He also added that my concerns about getting involved should not be a problem at all.

The thing about socializing is that, if you are social enough you would easily get mixed with the others. So, the en suite room wont be an enormous obstacle for you, as long as you dont want it to be. However, its obvious or more likely that postgrads would easier get on with postgrads, which is not so suprising I think. :wink:

Meanwhile, I think that someone has to update the website of Broadgate, cause it seems that its been a while ???? :wink:

This is the first year of the new studio rooms so I don't know how popular they are, but I would say that they are probably most popular with continuing undergrads and postgrads. But yeah, there's always opportunities for you to get involved socially with Broadgate. There's the BPRA (Broadgate Park Residents Association), which organises parties, holidays etc and the Karnival Reps (Us!) that do events and RAGs for charities. Just make sure you get yourself down the bar each night to meet loads of new people and get involved!

Unfortunately, I have nothing to do with the website! Yeah, it does need updating and I've been on the back of the BPRA to do it for aaaages! Dammit they don't listen to me!!

Do you know how quickly the new studio's are being taken up?

Also, apparently I have to apply directly through Broadgate if I want the new studio flats, whereas applying through the Uni will only give me the old rooms, do you know why this is and what different management means for the student?

Would you say the newer blocks are being taken more quickly than the older one's?

I don't think the new studios are *that* popular at the moment as it's their first year and not many seem to know about them so I think you should be ok for grabbing one.

Broadgate is run by an external company called UPP who own and manage the accommodation. Like with any landlord, they can be a bunch of *****s but usually they're ok if you stay out of their way. In effect, Broadgate Park as accommodation doesnt really have much to do with the Uni itself so you're best bet is to get in contact with UPP direct and apply through them.

i dunno about this year but last year we didnt have a form for our interests and we just got put wherever. ended up fine for me, tho was with 4 very antisocial international students. rarely heard it being a problem in honesty, there are so many other poeple to socialise with even if u dont get on amazingly with your flatmates.

there seemed to be a fair amount of asians last year, in the block called mulberries especially!

ah im so jealous, was such a good year - you'll have an awesome time! oh broadgate paaaaark is wonderful!
