Well if you pay less, the university makes less revenue from you. Thus they will prefer to bring in students from the rest of the UK rather than continental EU as they make more revenue from having these students.
But the fact is, they try and accept equal amounts from all fee statuses. It's really not that black and white. Although they do want to make money, they also want to uphold their reputation as a university by giving offers to those are who are most compatible with St. Andrews.
Oh my God you guys... I can't believe it. All the hard work (and moaning of the past few months) has finally paid off, I got an OFFER FOR ART HISTORY!!!!

Unconditional offer for Modern History!!! I'm absolutely delighted, St Andrews is my first choice and looks amazing
The only thing is, I originally applied for Modern History and English Literature. I have the grades for both sides of the joint course so I'm assuming the English department didn't like my personal statement, but is there any reason why I wouldn't be able to take English as one of my extra subjects when I get there and then switch to joint honours at the end of second year? I really really want to come to St A's in September but if there's no way I could do English it would be a bit of a problem for me.
Still, I'm so pleased to have an offer and can't wait to visit soon!

You'll be fine now you have your foot in the door! When I was T the open day they said you can do 3 subjects in your first 2 years and take whatever subject(s) you want into the 2rd and 4th year as long as you've done the neccecary modules

Hi, I have an offer for English at St Andrews . I was also confused as to how the flexible courses in your prelim semesters worked. From what I've read, and don't hold me to this, if you're studying English you can opt to study Medeival or Modern History (i'm not sure whether both) as part of your extra courses in the first two years before you start to specialise in the third and fourth years. I imagine it works vice verse for Modern History students, in which you're able to choose English as a complimentary subject then even study it as part of dual honours. Hope this helps!
Out of interest, have you decided what kind of halls you're planning on staying in? I am relatively clueless regarding the accommodation protocol
You got rejected?! Noo! Not after all this time! So sorry to hear this. Do you know where you're going to go? I know you had your heart set on St Andrews!
I'm sure they will get back to you soon. We're all about to go on spring vacation so if they've been struggling to reply to emails, they should be able to reply soon.
Out of curiosity, who did you send the email to??
Thanks, I'm sure they will reply sometime soon then I sent an email to the email address I found on the Physics & Astronomy contact page which you kindly directed me to Who knows, they might send a decision next week
