Why is Aston Villa in bold?

Because I'm a Villa fan

You're basing this off a video game?
Newcastle only have 62,000 fans yet St. James is 52,000. Not sure this an accurate representation of it.

Basing fanbase off FIFA.

Just no.

Why not?

The more fans a club has, the more fans a club should have on FIFA.

No, Liverpool were most successful in the 80's, hence older fans who don't play FIFA.

Arsenal were most successful 99-05, so teenagers 'support' them.

Man Untied have been successful for a while, hence the most fans and more ages of people who 'support' them.

Pattern!

:lolwut:

Are you actually being serious?

- Not all football supporters have FIFA
- Not all football supporters have a PS3
- Not all football supporters have a games console.
- Not all football supporters have PSN / Xbox Live
- People glory-seek
- People just don't use that support your club function or forget to.
- Many football supporters don't play video-games full stop.

Yes but it's the same for every club.

Is it any co-incidence that Newcastle United have the most fans on there outside of the Sky 6?

Is it any co-incidence that Leeds United and West Ham United have way more fans on there than any other Championship club?

Is it any co-incidence that, despite being in the Premier League, Wigan Athletic have less fans on there than Charlton Athletic who are in League One?

The top 20 most supported clubs in England don't neccessarily compromise the top division hence the disparity.

It's not the most baseless criteria but at the same time not the most well thought out. For instance, old people don't play computer games.

Probably a decent correlation but obviously flaws in it as mentioned above.

Man City are probably not 5th, it's just a lot of people younger than us have started supporting them recently.

The average age of a gamer is 32, I think, certainly for the Xbox. There are more over-25s playing games as there are teenagers. Though this doesn't detract from the point too much as those who remember Liverpool's success in the late 70s and 80s are late thirties/forties upwards.

Arsenal were most successful 99-05, so teenagers 'support' them.

Well, the 1930s actually :p: And they did have relative success in the early 1990s (two league titles, European trophy, FA Cup) so this will bring people in their late 20s and 30s.

Sorry for being pedantic, correcting such a minor mistake, but Wenger won his first double in 1998. They won sod all for the next four years. I wouldn't usually say anything but it slightly irked me, seeing 1999 down as being the start of Arsenal's most recent recent successful period (for obvious reasons).

As well as the obvious demograpics (and the fact that followers of certain clubs might be less likely to own a games console not just due to age but also financial circumstances- you are assuming ownership is standardised across clubs) there is also the issue that many people don't even support these clubs but just have them linked to their profile as they enjoy playing as that team. Look at the growth of Manchester City in the last year or two (people playing as them, not because they support them, but because they enjoy playing with them due to the strong team they have). City don't have any larger a fanbase than Newcastle, or perhaps Villa and Everton, in my experience, yet almost everyone seems to play as them on Fifa 12.

It can give a general indication but it's not gospel. It probably tells you little more than what any average person can estimate him or herself, with just a knowledge of geography and football.
