Anyone wants to share his/her experenice or advice?

NGS!

We run weekly speaker/discussion/drinking groups. You couldn't ask for a finer bunch of folks, if you're at all interested in political things.

Swing by our stall at freshers' fair next year- we shouldn't be too hard to find.

Ethical questions, questions of Rights, unusual perspectives- the works, really.

Over the past two years, a smattering of things we've done are:

Why one ought to be a Vegetarian.

Should the University accept funding from Arms companies?

Is Britain a Christian country?

In Defence of Political Correctness

We should abolish the police and simply give everybody firearms for self-defence

•

Should Private Schools be abolished?

The general format's a fifteen/twenty minute presentation by that week's speaker (student or academic, generally- though we do get in outsiders fairly frequently). After that, there's a quick Q&A session, then everybody in attendance simply discusses the topic amongst themselves over a drink or two- completely informal.

It's a great way to meet people, if you're interested in the week's topic. Absolutely transformed my university experience- I'll be a bit sad to hand over the reins of the society to the next committee come Autumn.

Bright Futures York - for awesome careers advice/events

YUSnow - Skiing/snowboarding soc. Insane socials, weekly training for racing and freestyle, yearly trips abroad

Pantsoc! Society of the year 2012.... just thought i'd mention it :P

Seriously though if you're interested in performing or just want to meet a great bucnh of people who are totally inclusive, Pantsoc is amazing :smile:

But above all; University Radio York! Having your own radio show is one of the most fun, rewarding and unique experiences I believe you can have at uni, and it's not that difficult to get one. Plus everyone is really friendly and welcoming.

Personally URY made my first year at York the best year of my life.
