Why Are Louboutins So Grossly Overhyped?

Scroll to see replies

I have a number of male friends who absolutely love girls in heels, and do consider them a turn on. Most of them don't even have a foot fetish or anything or the like, but it's more so the obvious effect of what they do to womens legs and ass. And I don't know one guy who doesn't love the thought of a woman keeping her heels on in bed.

Work has helped me become pretty much immune to deadly high heels - it took plenty of practice but i think i'm capable of walking in just about anything and its got to the point where I find walking in heels more natural than in flats!

I would have to say though i've never spent more than £100 on a pair of shoes, my favourite killer heels are a gold pair i got in the sale from Next this time last year, £20, 6.25in high, gold and a tad on the tight side, but they look like they came via the Victoria's Secret show!

Is that you in the photo?.If so, you are very pretty

Yeah, it was a heat for a pageant i did last year.

I agree i bet you can get some of the same quailty for about £100. i would rather have jimmy choos anyday!
i would LOVE to orn a pair but unfotunately they are far too expensive for me... maybe one day
I think part of the appeal has got to be that it's so obvious what brand they are. You'd have to know your fashion to spot a pair of Jimmy Choo's or Manolo's whereas practically everyone knows red sole= Louboutins (or at least recognises them as being designer).
I don't like them myself, the red sole seems cheap somehow and they're getting a bit overdone.
And no high heels, regardless of price, will ever be completely comfortable :frown:

the comfiest heels i have ever worn were a £20 pair from new look, whilst the most painful heels i have worn cost £80 from topshop. just saying that just because you are paying more doesn't mean to say they will be more comfortable. the more you wear them, the comfier they will be, but they will never be like fur lined flats

personally i love the classic louboutins rather than the one-off, out there styles, they just seem so timeless and if i was ever in a position to buy a pair i'd buy the black patents or the nude ones because i'd want to be able to wear them more than just going out at night

I don't own a pair though I have worn some for a job before, I was left in absolute agony but then again I have quite wide feet whereas these ones were made quite narrow. They were gorgeous and could probably have been more comfy if i'd been able to get a wide version, but I don't think I could justify their price tag. They are fantastic quality though.

I'd rather own Louboutins than Gianmarco Lorenzis, much as the magpie in me adores these, Louboutins are considerably more practical:

Wow, now those are amazing :sogood: Something like that I (if I was a woman) would just place on my mantlepiece and admire. I wouldn't want to walk in them for fear of ruining them.

Is the front section there height adjustible? I notice it appears to be two tiered...
i've found stuff like this has become more tacky and chavvy now the likes of TOWIE are wearing them everywhere they go.. you know wobbling down the street in their louboutin peep toes, chanel sunglasses on head and louis vuiton bag in hand.. i don't know they've lost their appeal... they look less glamorous and more chavtastic... even though they're expensive. it's like when abercrombie and fitch (although not on the same level as the other brands) PAYED jersey shore cast members NOT to wear their gear.

don't get me wrong, some of the shoes are gorgeous... but i just kind of cringe when i see TOWIE people wearing them..

and it's branding, why is any brand "overhyped"... it's all about exclusivity... they used to do it with bananas and pineapples too.

I'm the kind of person that will buys shoes if they're nice on me (duh?)
But I mean regardless of the place or label that it comes with. Sometimes I don't get why people will blindly buy a shoes just for the label, I guess maybe responsible people will say for the quality and the craftsmanship that has gone into it.

But ALWAYS there are people that don't even know... like... ugh. Like people who buy "EVERYTHING in Topshop, therefore I am fashionable" - that's the kind of customer I detest.

For designer shoes you really do need to think, plan the outfit that you would wear with it. I mean, it should be a useful investment! Not becuase you see it in the magazine and you always hear about Louboutins, as an example.
Or how now EVERYBODY loves Alexander McQueen now, but before his tragic death people would've said, "who?"...

I think I'm just ranting know about those fake fashionistas who buy everything from the new-in section now so maybe I should stop myself, lol.

firstly there's the craftsmanship. they will not fall apart the second you wear them as ones from primark would. in fact they will last a very long time. Also the quality of the materials is incredibly high. as someone else has said he specialises in making high heeled shoes comfortable. so the materials used are supple and do not rub or irritate the skin. nor do they tear or wear away all that quickly/easily.

I find it funny how people try to justify expensive fashion with quality. For example some Louis Vuitton bags are sold for thirteen times the production costs.
I'm not saying that wearing expensive brands is wrong, but most people do it because it makes them feel special, not because a shoe is more comfortable or high quality.

Exactly. It's a status symbol thing.

It seems to me that even when people put little thought into putting an outfit together before going out, as in garments and accessories that complement one another, they will still feel confident or atleast adequate enough simply because they're wearing brands/labels.

Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes and various crap we don't need.
I LOVE THEM. They are the shoes i wanted to buy with my first paycheck but alas, i am unemployed(still). I don't really like the plain ones as you can pick a pair from topshop or primark. he has one that is like a rainbow.:coma:

Evidence? Generally, the mark-up on LV is around four times the production cost, and the production costs are high thanks to the quality of the materials and the fact that all items involve at least some element of being hand made, even if this is 'hand finishing' the item.

I'd certainly agree that there's a lot of 'status' in luxury fashion. After all, you're paying a hell of a lot for items of clothing. However, quality is inherent in some luxury fashion labels (LV is one example), not because of the brand itself so much as their using traditional manufacturing techniques, the finest materials and skilled craftsmen rather than sweatshops.

The real point of contention is the difference between cost and worth.
