RAF Aircraft Technician (Avionics) Or (Mechanical)

RAF Aircraft Technician (Avionics) Or (Mechanical)

I am in the decision of applying for one trade in the Royal air force. I have always wanted to be a Aircraft technician in the Mechanics.
I do not know which one - Avionics or mech would be suitable leaving the raf with - meaning is there potential jobs in that sector.

Can you tell me what would be suitable after the raf life? Thanks

You are applying for a minimum of 9 years in the RAF, so:

1. Why would you want to join for that amount of time in a specialisation you don't enjoy?

2. What will you say in interview when they ask your reasons for joining the RAF and your choice of trade?

3. Who knows what the situation will be outside in several years time?

Sorry to sound negative, but I'm trying to understand where you are coming from with this question. You say you want to be a mechanical technician then ask other people what you should do. The RAF will give you qualifications that are recognised outside, but you would then still need to get your licences for aircraft work.

Yea, I understand where you are coming from.

I was just only asking for people's thoughts after you finished RAF life after being a techy.. (Jobs) - and which is the best role to go from.

There are jobs out there for both preferences. However, you would have to complete a civilian licence. Saying this, there are jobs that you don't need this and pay well. I have many mates who have recently left and secured jobs.

As for which trade, avionics all the way (personal opinion though!)

I'm going for Avionics anyway, thank you for the reply.

Why? : Job I believe I will enjoy, because I have done 2 weeks worth of work experience on both mech and AV, and AV is suitable for me. :smile:
