I do normal history, but it's pretty much the same for both courses. The lecturers are all friendly and helpful, I've never had a problem with them. Winchester is a very good course for history, given the history of Winchester itself. If your daughter loves history, which I presumes she does, she'll love Winchester, it has history everywhere.

If you want to be persuaded on going to Winchester, the city is fantastic. It's a small community (40k population) and a lovely place to live in. I'd consider living here when I'm older. The university is small for its number of students but punches well above its weight in the high quality of its teaching, less students means more interaction with teachers, you're a name to them, not a number.

Yes, there are. In the first year and first semester you will have to do a 15-20 minute GROUP presentation, you will only have to talk for 2-3 minutes infront of about maybe 120 people I guess. In your first year and second semester you will have to do a 15 minute GROUP presentation, but in a smaller group sizes and to a smaller audience.

I've just picked my modules for my second year, of which I've seen that you have to do a SOLO presentation. Everyone has to do this.

Just remember, everyone is in the same boat as you when you do presentations. I dreaded doing my first one, I had never done public speaking before in my life, but once it's over you find out it's not so bad and you can do it. There are workshops avaliable to help you on them. Presentations may seem scary, but it's a great thing to do, builds confidence, makes you attractive to employers etc.

Any more questions, just ask.

Hey again  I was just wondering if the students that are doing a combined honour degree will have to do all these presentations too? Also do you know much about how combined honours work? Thanks again!

Random question, but is it possible to do an abroad thing if I'm doing a joint honours (Creative Writing & Journalism Studies)? It probably isn't, but it's worth an ask as it would be pretty awesome.

I emailed them a few months ago about this (I'm Journalism Studies and Media Production) and they said it's possible to do a semester in North America in year 2

Was it the department or admissions you spoke to?

For combined honours, you are given modules from one subject and modules from another. For example, if you studied history and politics, two of your modules will be from the politics course and the other two from history.

If you do a combined honours degree in history, such as medieval/modern/ancient,classical,medieval history then your degree modules will be more specialised to your subject area.

For presentations you might, it might change next year with the modules. I do full history and in my first year I have had to do two presentations, whereas a friend does combined honours and has only had to do one presentation for history this year due to not being on the same modules.

If you are worried about presentations it's nothing you should worry about. When I did my first one I was panicking, nervous, butterflies in my stomache before I was about to talk, thinking the worst would happen, but before I knew it it was over. I did my second presentation the other day and I felt a lot more confident for it, I was more confident in speaking and not as nervous as before.

The university help you settle into doing presentations by doing it in a large group in your first semester, smaller group in your second semester, both of which you will only speak for maybe 2 minutes. In your second year you will have to do a solo one, they are only about 8 minutes long. Everyone has to do it so you're not going to be worrying about it. There are workshops that help you on it also. Chances are, every other university will do presentations as part of their modules.

I hope that helped.
