Rejected from Medicine again not a clue what I should do :(

Well last year I applied for Medicine full of hope, I got really ill that year and ended up making a mess of year 13 and didn't get the grades needed for university (AAA). Being upset and everything, I decided to reapply (I got CCC at the end of year 13). There was only a few universities that would accept me, and i've been rejected off all of them now.

This would be my second time applying for Medicine and ending up being a failure. i don't know what to do, I am currently holding a Pharmacy offer but I don't know my heart was set on medicine but as ****ing usual, everyone moves on in life and I am stuck?


All my friends have moved on, even best friends are goneeee. Sucks but tbh, I didn't really care. I chose to ignore it all and think everything is going to be fine when in reality my life is falling apart.

If I don't get into university this year I will be living on the streets...My parents are moving on. I can understand why, they've done their job and the current economic climate has pretty much destroyed my small family. If I don't go to university, that's it...Nothing.

I still need to get the grades of BBB, and I just don't know if I got the grades in the January exams...

All I want to be is a ****ing doctor and idk, I just need some help. I have no one to talk to lol...My parents don't care no more, friends=none. I have no one :/

I saw your post and didn't want to read and run. You can tell from my name that I'm not an applicant myself, but as an older person I would encourage you to take the long view. You're not stuck, your life is moving on.

From your family circumstances it doesn't seem that you are able to take a second gap year, so work to get your grades and take up your Pharmacy offer. You'll make new friends at university (most people love it) and be studying towards a worthwhile career. If you get 3 As you could make another medical application to the unis that will accept it in your first year, or you could work towards GEM if you're still determined to be a doctor.

You've got a lot of opportunities ahead of you and a lot of good times too, whatever it feels like at the moment.

why won't your parents support you OP? Can you get a part time job?

I totally agree with this suggestion! Don't forget that every great man have been passed trough such circumstances and they have tragic stories to share.Look at Bill Gates, there is signs every where for men of understanding.
I believe that those who are confronted with many failures are the one destined to be great man!
About friends who can be more good friend than you? No one and you are not the one without friends many people who seem happy never had any friends in life. It showed that they were never your true friend. You know who are loyal to you when you are in trouble or pain...........
You should happy that your eyes have been opened to reality of life and this will indeed board your insight and perception.

Your situation sounds a little like mine was a few years ago.

I applied in 2006/7 all optimistic and excited at studying medicine and being a doctor- I didn't get an offer. My parents told me to take up my Biomed offer, get a job & pay rent or GTFO.

I tried my hardest but couldn't find a job, took up my Biomed offer and moved out due to stress at home getting me down.

I graduated in 2009 and still haven't got my offer, but haven't quite lost hope yet. I would really recommend you think about whether you really want to do Pharmacy, I chose Biomed because I thought I had no choice. I did enjoy my degree and made amazing friends and had great experiences but I'm finding grad entry a real pain. I do wonder if I would have got into medicine had I taken a gap year and found a job instead but at the time I felt I didn't have any choice.

You have a lot of thinking to do, but ultimately however hard it may feel now you will end up stronger because of it. I wish you luck in the future.

I'm virtually in the same situation as you besides the fact that I gave up on medicine after rejections of the first year. Sometimes you have to realise that perhaps it isn't for you. However, if, after completing a different degree, you still want to become a doctor, there are always alternatives such as grad entry. People say it's competitive. Yes it is, but it is your job to create an exceptional application. If it seems common, then competition will be great.

I am in the exactly same position as you. I am a re-applicant who has been rejected from all her chosen med schools. My parents have made it clear that they are throwing me out next year. I have nobody to lean on, I am depressed because all I wanted to do was medicine but now I am all alone.

Yesterday, I sworn to my life that whatever I do in my life I will bend heavens to find myself in the top of the strata. I will work harder than ever and become a very sucessful person!

1. Maybe you can get more work experience? This will help you with your application.
2. Even if you do take the pharmacy offer, like the above post said, you can apply for doing the degree to become a doctor afterwards. There is no end to what you can do and don't feel like you are stuck, because it will make you less determined, and less motivated to do well.
You said you had no one (I'm sorry for you man), but consequently this could be a plus side for the moment, because it means you have more time to spend on studying and doing well because you don't have to make the room to socialise. Then when you get the good grades, and move on to whatever you want to do, you can make new friends in a new environment

I am a re applicant too. No interviews a t all last year. This year I am waiting on 2 interviews from med and I have 1 offer for Pharmacy. I have decided that if i am unsuccessful in Med this year I will go for Pharmacy. It is an excellent career and It is well known that Med is v. hard to get into even if you have the required grades.

My parent have been fully supportive of me all the way through and i am sorry that your parents are not the same. You should divorce them! Granted I have had a full time job in my gap year and they can see that I am trying hard but you kind of expect parents to give love and support throughout don't you?

1st world problems lol. No offence but you need to pick a course you are absolutely sure that you can cope with because it seems if your struggling to get into Medicine it will be probably difficult for you to cope. Plus if you needed AAA and you got CCC I'm sure that being ill wasn't the only factor that you didn't get into Medicine. Sorry if I seem to harsh but it's a dog eat dog world.

is there no teacher you could talk to or aunt/uncle/grandparent?

If you fail to get your grades there is always clearing. You could also consider other roles - there are lots of different jobs that involve patient care besides pharmacy. Or take a job in a hospital and look to apply for medicine as a mature student when requirements are different. You don't need to be on the streets. Councils aren't always terribly supportive of young adults but they will give you advice on landlords that would accept people on housing benefit. However Shelter is a very good source of advice http://www.shelter.org.uk/ I know young people who have used them.

Back at that low point (lol likes there's been a high point?), just feel like...What's the point? Can't really explain it tbh, I guess it's got to do with the fact that I haven't told parents that I have been rejected from all the Med schools... I don't really want to either.

My friend got rejected from medicine and took biochem - after this she applied for grad medicine and got rejected then as well. However, she ended up doing a paramedic degree and is now a paramedic, and she loves it! She would have made a fantastic doctor, but now she is a fantastic paramedic, and she saves lives every day. There are alternatives to becoming a doctor.

You need to feel that you're moving on. Your life is difficult at the moment and I'm not surprised that you're feeling low, but you are absolutely not stuck. I really would advise working hard to get the grades you need to take your pharmacy offer.

Once you're at university, busy, with new friends and lots to do, living independently, you will feel very different I promise you.

Medicine is still a possibility for the future.

Edit - is there anyone at school that you can talk to? I think you need some support that isn't Internet based, just to take you through this tough patch in your life.
