What courses would you LIKE the OU to offer?

I'd like to see more choice in their biology and chemistry modules. They took away 'Biology: uniformity and diversity' but didn't replace it until the upcoming academic year, which means a student like me has had to take a module they weren't so happy with!

And I wish they'd reverse their decision to get rid of the more specialised science degrees! I'd have preferred to do life sciences.. Now doing 'broad degree' natural sciences, as they advertise it!

What's the new replacement for that Biology module?

It's not a straight swap topic-wise, but they took away uniformity and diversity and only now have given a new module : S294 Cell Biology.

I think it looks great, I've had my eye on the replacement for a while and I'll definitely be doing it at some point.

They applied a long time ago to offer pre-clinical medicine, with the medics then going on to their clinical years at a university teaching hospital. I think they applied to do it with Bristol and Leeds IIRC.

Yep, there was a concern that there was going to be a shortage of doctors so the OU was going to help out.

Ah, yes they've been pushing it to us S104 students. Useful for the life sciences crowd.

Talking of S104, I didn't know they are changing EMA for exam on that module! I feel lucky that I've already completed it now...

Yep, 6 TMAs instead of 7 and an exam instead of the long winded EMA. Even though I hate exams, I think I'd take the new S104 workload anyday. The EMA took me ages!!

The computer you're using is only made possible by computer science how is that not usefull?

I mean the prospect of learning Business applications of computers, networking, (I use this as an example every time) spooling and other stuff I couldn't care less about. It's great for others I'm sure, but the course usually offers things that simply do not interest me.

How can you possibly be useful as a sound engineer if you don't learn the fundamental stuff. I suggest you rethink your head in the clouds attitude.

I was simply offering a suggestion, that was a bit unnecessary, no? :/
They could really use a named geography degree. You can do various named degrees which involve geography i.e. environmental studies, international studies etc. and even a degree that has BA (Hons) Social Science (Geography), but for people who want to get a geography degree which involves some human and some physical and aren't just interested in the environmental side... they are a bit stuck (other than getting an open degree).
I'd also quite like to see a theatre studies/drama degree

A maths and philosophy degree. Logic courses. The option to replace level one modules with harder ones to boost the credibility (like you used to be able to).

Yes to this. Would be awesome

Openings/Level 1 courses in Creative Writing! I don't want to do "introduction to the Arts" and I don't want to commit to a Level 2 course, but I'd love to do an Openings or Level 1 course in creative writing alongside my full-time studies!

They used to have this - like "Start writing fiction" 15 point Level1 courses. Maybe they'll offer them again.

They used to do a 10-credit Level 1 Creative Writing module; they only just stopped (it fell victim to the general cull of 10-credit modules). Oxford Cont-ed and the OCA both do introductory Creative Writing stuff, though - maybe give them a go?

I know, I just missed the cut off for applying for the last time they ran the 10-credit one because my teacher wouldn't sign my form in time  Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look into them!
