I think saying avoid it like the plague is a little harsh- I know people who have had a great time in Bowland, and it has been mostly refurbished this year. Also, every experience is personal, for example I had a terrible first year in Grizedale due to flatmates so have moved colleges. You just can't generalise colleges like that I don't think

It's basic, but its liveable.

One of my friends lived there this year and loved it.

Don't listen to this cambo211 guy, he's always spreading misinformation about the forum. Honestly, it's the worst accommodation on campus

would have been nice to have a couch/living area of county, but then again at least I have a bit more money this way. is there like a common room or anything in "the ghetto" accomodation?

It's not that bad. I was there for 1st year and i'm going back this year
Isn't as new as other accommodation but the rooms seem to have more space than the new ensuites. Kithens are a bit manky though and the closest you'll get to a 'common room' will be the top floor of the bar.

it's funny how all the people crying over accommodation being a bit rough are lads, goes against every feminist bone in my body to say this, but jesus christ man up a bit will you.

Ghetto's a nickname, and yes, it's the college that is due for renovation in the summer of next year, but compared to some accomodation I've seen, it's a palace. it's perfectly livable, as I've lived there last year (Block 2) and am going back this year (Block 14). The only thing you need to look out for is the older ovens, but even that's a doddle if you line the Hob underside with tin foil to catch fat.

It's no more grotty than the Grizedale standard blocks, they're usually cleaner than the townhouses (due to employed cleaners), and it's a better atmosphere than the ensuite stuff, especially during Fresher's week. All in all, you'll be fine with what you have, and if you don't like it, there's always off campus stuff for next year.

Oh, and bottom floor is livable as well, you just need to be more cautious about thefts, which happens rarely anyway, with Lancaster having the lowest crime rate out of any Uni town.

Yeh.... because users in the forum are really going to listen to the n00b with negative reputation and hardly any posts over the established user with shed loads of positive rating who won Mod's Member of the Month award for helpful contributions to the site...

This kind of slanderous comparison between subjects/Universities/colleges is usually initiated by people who get a kick out of feeling superior to others over arbitrary differences.

I lived on the bottom floor in Pendle ghetto first year, and honestly I wouldn't have changed that even if I'd had the choice. The kitchen was a bit rough but nothing that made it unusable, and the rooms themselves were actually bigger than in most ensuite/more expensive accommodation.

I didn't really see the lack of a sofa area a problem; admittedly, we'd tend to predrink in somewhere like Grizedale or County as they had better socialising areas, but on the basis that everywhere on campus is within a few minutes walk that wasn't really an issue.

I know that certainly the atmosphere was better in ghetto than in posh during freshers week and even beyond, though really that mostly just comes down to which people are living where, and that'll differ year on year. Either way, living in ghetto is nothing to worry about.

okay thanks  I was more thinking that it would put me at a disadvantage if I wanted to stick my head out the window for a quick smoke but its not really anything I guess. the size is a good thing since I plan on having people from home to stay after a few months. Could you describe rough? I have no issue with older appliances but some mad mould everywhere would suck a bit. The party thing is good. I just had an operation on my jaw so they told me to avoid the clubs which is a major blow so I am hoping that there will be more house parties and less club nights in freshers.

I didnt really buy into the whole collegiate stuff, but I feel it is worth belonging to somewhere called the ghetto so I can act like a wigga legitimately  Why is it called the ghetto compared to similar accommodation in other colleges?
