Northumbria Applicants for 2012

Hello everyone,

I received an unconditional offer for English literature and creative writing. I'm really looking forward to university, but I am also very afraid of getting homesick since my family is going to be half a world away. I wish I could attend an open day, just to get a better picture of Northumbria University, but that will be impossible.
Does anyone know what it is like for EU/International students at Northumbria?
Also... for people arriving via plane/train and not car... how do you transport all the stuff you need (clothes, book, kitchen appliances, makeup stuff, decoration, things that remind you of home, etc) ? Especially if you have to meet the airline standards for luggage.

I've applied for International Business & French! I haven't really looked at accommodation yet though! What about you?

Just accepted an offer - as my insurance - for Adult Nursing at Northumbria. Do I still have the same chance as everyone else for accommodation or do I have to wait longer?

I've applied to Northumbria for Physiotherapy, have an interview tomorrow really hope it goes well as i would love to go there.
Does anyone know what the accommodation is like at Coach Lane campus? The website doesn't really show much of it.

Hi everyone, this is my first post on TSR, (woot! woot!) :-) I've finally got all my offers back (pleased to say no unsuccessful choices) and I'm definatly wanting to go to Northumbria. I only live about 25 minutes from the main campus but I still want to stop in halls for my first year (can't wait to get away from the parents lol) so I'm looking at Camden Court, mainly because it has 'some' parking on site and I need to keep my car to get to work. If anyone has been in/lived there or knows someone who has then please drop me a message on this thread!

I'm also in a tricky position as to what course I am to choose at Northumbria. I've received conditional offers for both 'Web Design and Development' and 'Information Communication Management' but I don't know which one to choose! :s Info Comms has no written exams but as far as I know all modules for this course are core/compulsary (no optional modules) where as Web Design has exams :-( but has loads of options as to what modules you study! I've done ICT for 4 years now from GCSE to A level and love the subject but just don't know whether to branch off into Web Design or Info Comms? Again, if anyone is studying/has studied any one of these courses your comments would be appreciated! :-)

I think it largely depends on what you what you enjoy and what you think will be useful in your career. I wouldn't let the fact one has exams and the other doesn't sway your decision unless you strongly feel that exams are your weakness and will stop you from getting a first.

I moved from a course that had optional modules to Computer Science which has no optional modules. I quite like that because it allows me to be with like minded students in most my classes which really helps improve my work.

My colleague studies Web Design but she's currently away! I will get her to pop on here when she gets back within a few weeks to speak about what she's covered in her course.

I got an unconditional offer for "Ethical Hacking for Computer Security" course. Together with Abertay, it would be one of my top choices. I have a question: the professional placement during the 3rd year will be paid? And I would get a job role relevant to my studies (in my case a junior penetration tester role) or something more general such as systems and networks administration?

The placement year will be paid and it will be pretty much like getting a job except you will have the the benefit of having Northumbria's placements team helping you perfect your CV, cover letter and interview techniques.

There will be a wide range roles available, I've seen a few specific security roles on the placement board. The competition will be fierce for these specialised placements so make sure to study hard and get things on your CV to make yourself stand out.

This is something I'm currently going though now for Computer Science and I'm really looking forward to the prospect of getting some more industry experience on my CV!
