i think i am better at dancing than gymnastics...

Would you be comfortable performing gymnastics in front of 1 billion people? I'm guessing you would be more comfortable dancing in a crowd........

There was some emphasis at the audition that I went to that special skills really meant being great at it rather than just being able to do it.

Good luck this afternoon!

does anyone know anything regarding the list of special skills that they ask u at the end?...

basically im an ex-gymnast. so i can do some gymnastics but im just not the best in the world cos i havent done it for a few years... but say i put my name down for gymnastics then would they only consider me for a role with gymnastics or would they also consider me for a role with dancing (from the dancing that had been done in the audition)?

like i think i am better at dancing than gymnastics...so should i just stick to dance (and not say i have a special skill) or is it worth saying i have a special skill-- gymnastics (as i can still do a lot of the gymnastics stuff), but would you be considered in regard to both dancing and gymnastics, or just gymnastics if u say u have a special skill? (would they then discount the dancing that u had done earlier)?

sorry for the questions! x

The only special skills they asked for at the end of mine were pointe work, bmx, drumming, and anyone who worked for the NHS I think.
I'm a bit curious about how they're going to find out about the gymnasts aside from everyone else. I have a feeling that whatever they're looking for in the recalls (probably loads of varying levels of dancing/acting etc) they'll then at that point ask if anyone can do gymnastics. Then they'll probably audition you; then if you're not good enough at the gym they can put you back as a dancer or whatever else. If that makes sense.

The best thing is to try your best and go with the flow!
I also read something on one of the emails we got saying that we're auditioning for the 'opening or closing ceremonies.' I really hope I get to go to the opening, the closing is never as grand
Did the audition yesterday... not what i expected, FUN! but like someone said... there are always the few people who are actually dancers that seem to have the people with the clip boards stand up and take down their number.

I just hope i get through :crossedf:

Hi I am a bit worried about the audition this weekend. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what would be good to wear? are jeans ok? also how many people were roughly there auditioning? what kind of dancing do you have to do? how long is the dancing part? Thank you!

To anyone that hasnt had their audition yet, its normal to be nervous and worried about the unknown but be assured that the auditions are arranged so that you will enjoy it and have fun.
Wear whatever you feel comfortable in, jeans or leggings and trainers t shirt etc, you will get quite hot so bear that in mind when deciding what to wear.
The routines are devised so that anyone can do them even if you have never danced in your life.
Just enjoy the experience everyone is really nice and they tell you exactly what you have to do when you are there.
I had a great time and really enjoyed it, I came away with a big grin on my face!

I second that....juat go along and have a great time. The whole experience is awesome, regardless of the outcome. Enjoy and good luck!
I'e had an audition on 02.11.2011 and within 48 hours (as expected) I had another e-mail form them saying that I had got through to 2nd audition on Sunday 20.11.2011 - wasn't the fittest or best dancer in the room by a long chalk but not completely hopeless either and, like others who have posted on here, am now curious what "specific role" they are considering me for although I did mention I was a trained musician (still playing regularly in a band as I have done for 33 years continuously now) and therefore would consider the drumming specialist skill they were looking for even though drums/percussion is not where my musician strengths lie. Mentioning this might be what got me through to the next stage, we will never know! There was about 150 or so people present last time - all ages, shapes, sizes and abilities and I was not overly taxed effort wise thankfully, but glad of the water provided all the same and the chance to catch my breath whilst watching part of the group do their bit. I am 46 (almost 47) now btw should anyone be interested in that bit too, not currently a student anywhere either. <LOL>

I don't think I've seen anyone say they have a rejection yet so really the chances are good. My view was that they were looking for a small number of people who they could obviously eliminate for whatever reason rather than everyone having to pass (if that makes sense!)

You might be right there actually (given the vast numbers of people they are going to need for mass choreography alone at either/both ceremonies if previous Olympics ceremonies and similar are anything to go by anyway!). Somebody I spoke to at my first audition thought that too.

First 10-15 minutes (after you've queued for what seems like an age) was costume measurements and validation then pretty much next 2 hours or so was intro. of staff there followed by movement/dancing focussed activity followed by some photographs of the group (for posterity? I am guessing these are going to be projected inside the stadium at the ceremony as part of the "story" of the volunteer performer's journey to get to perform there but I really don't know that for sure of course, just guessing!)

As for dance style - think more group aerobics/zumba session (all for free!) rather than true "dancing" per se - with accompanying music similar to what you'd expect there I suppose - more like hip hop/pop than classical, ballroom or ballet say,om,ething all you youngsters should be completed aux fait with (even I could just about manage to dance to that sort of music, yes, i know at my age - no idea what that looked like looking in though of course, probably hilarious <LOL> !

mine is on the 22nd too!! Are you a dancer or actor? Mines at 5.30 tho.

I'm not sure if they will eliminate more people depends how many got through the initial stage I think.
Is anyone else going at 6:00 tonight??
I was thinking this audition may be a bit quieter as it is a Friday night.

probably not. every audition has to be a mass audition so there should be at least 150 people there, otherwise they arent really seeing how you can work and stand out in a large group.

Seeing as I only applied 2 days ago as the registration was still online I am assuming there are quite a number of spaces left.
I would like lots of people to be there but if not more of a chance to stand out. :-)
