Default TERRIFIED of freshers week - anybody with me here

just under two weeks to go and i'm off to uni and i am SCARED as about the social side. i'm quiet, rather shy, introverted.. think too much, etc, you get the drift.. so freshers week isn't the kind of thing a person like me looks forward to

helppp meeeeee, tell me it will be ok
pat me on the head and tell me eeeeverything is going to be just fine and that i won't be the weird person standing alone at a party fidgeting with my phone to look less pathetic?
please?

You're me, basically!

Last year I avoided Freshers Week altogether because I'm so shy - I didn't make any friends.

My advice is to just do it because I regret not going to anything now. I know it's easier said than done, but it's much easier to get involved than to spend every minute alone in your room, I can tell you!

Lol sorry I really wasn't trying to scare you! It's not the same for everyone. Even thought I missed Freshers Week there was plenty of opportunities for me to make friends - societies, accepting invites etc and I didn't because of my confidence.

You might become great friends with your flatmates and that'll set you up for the year because it's so much easier if there's even one person you can hang out with.

I know how difficult is, but you'll be fine. Once you start, if you need advice, feel free to PM

Yeah it is

well in a way you're luckier as you get to get it over and done with
haha so positive aren't we
you're not alone amigo, apparently we're not such a rare breed, us introverted lot. we must be optimistic.. and if we DO by any chance end up being alone in some busy student filled place where everyone is drinking and dancing and belonging with each other, just pretend you're the heroine of a film and, actually, everyone loves YOU

YES THEY DO.

Uni is a chance to create a new you! Try and push your fears aside and get involved in the social side - you will SERIOUSLY regret it if you sit in your room all week with the door shut

Good luck

If you arnt keen on getting drunk then its not a problem - not every student wants to get slaughtered every time they go out you know
Just have a few to lower your inhibitions a bit

I wouldn't worry about Freshers week too much if it's not your sort of thing. For some people, it's great, and they can get drunk and aprty like never before. For others that aren't so keen on that sort of thing, it's not, but that doesn't matter.

You'll probably make most of your friends on your course, and a lot of the people you might meet at Freshers week you probably wont see much or again. If you dont like or dont feel comfortable at parties, no reason to go - there's plenty of other things to do, and there's plenty of other people that are similar. Plus, once your course starts, you'll soon make even more friends and fit in easily, it happens, no matter how shy or quiet you are.

If some events sound interesting or appealing, jump in and go there and enjoy it. If they don't and you'd rather not go, then don't force yourself to do something you probably wont enjoy. There'll be plenty of other oppurtunities to make friends, meet people and have a great time!

While some students get drunk, particularly in freshers week, a lot don't. People are different, and at university, there's all types. The ones going out and geting drunk may be more visible, but it doesn't mean that all students are like that, because they aren't.

It'll be fine, don't worry about it, and in no time, you'll meet lots of people like yourself and make some great friends
