    Grammar school or not??
Hi, I was just wondering if the school you go to for sixth form school effects your chances of getting into a prestigous uni. For example a candidate coming from a prestigous grammar school as oppossed to another candidate coming from an ordinary school. Thanks for any replies and I hope everyone get good results on results day!!

Social engineering -> find the worst performing school in your area, work hard for good grades getting a private tutor if necessary -> easy offers from top unis

It's completely dependant on your grades. You will probably get better grades at a prestigious grammar school, so you'd be better off in that sense. Otherwise, there's no specific difference.

Being around like-minded people will help you concentrate more while studying and you're less likely to be distracted by those who do not want to work. I know attending a dire sixth form filled with awful teachers and inarticulate chimps was detrimental to my education.

    Go for the grammar school.

Unfortunately, this is becoming increasingly more true.

As for your situation OP, nobody knows what kind of local comprehensives you have available - the two I was entitled to go to were (and still are) in the bottom quartile of secondary schools in this country. Absolutely abysmal in every sense, so my parents chose to send me to the local independent grammar school which isn't that great a school relative to other private schools, and a comp. which I wasn't entitled to go to in year 7 is better than my independent school - but I couldn't go there so the best option was to settle with the grammar. I've grown to love it and didn't want to move for sixth form as was the plan, so it all turned out good.

The point I am trying to make is that it is dependent upon your specific circumstances and what you want out of education. Best of luck. :yep:

Grammar school was good to me the teachers were excellent and the student base was ok. It might be true that if you get excellent grades from a poor school it would be impressive but I'd pick the grammar school, mainly for the teaching quality. In terms of prestige the better a school the worse it PROBABLY is I reckon as people will think you had a better opportunity
