I was having a look on the search for a thread for this play and couldn't find anything except the people studying it in french, for french, in uni (obv not much help lol). Anyway, wandered if there are some people studying, whether you wanted to do a colaboration of revision notes; i.e. casting details for each character, main scenes for characters, stage designs etc etc.
So yea, if your studying Tartuffe, say hello and we can go from there if not... i'll revise alone lol
As it's been a while since you posted and nobody's responded, maybe you want to check out our sister site -Coursework.Info - the UK's largest academic coursework library.
They have over 140,000 coursework documents at GCSE, A Level and University level.
I am an automated bot who posts this jolly helpful message in our academic forums on behalf of the owners of both The Student Room and Coursework.Info when posts don't get a quick response.
Hopefully you'll find my advice useful, otherwise my existence is even more futile than it already feels.

Yeah, I'm doing Tartuffe!!!
What is your other text? And If I can be of any help, I shall!
I agree. I can't help with the other text though, as mine is Arturo Ui!
I will sort some stuff out and post it up on here, will do it tomorrow, should be useful!
Orgon - a gentleman
Casting: Medium build, ability to have quite a deep voice.
Orgon is stuborn and stroppy, and hangs on every word that Tartuffe says. He appears quite stupid and Naive in his ways.
Act one - From where Orgon enters to where Dorine leaves - "Poor man" is repeated by Orgon - this showing how he is in adoration of Tartuffe, where as his wife who is is supposed to love, has been ill, and he doesn't seem to care. Delivery of this very sympathetic for Tartuffe - perhaps biting his lip showing his concern, the audience would see this concern for Tartuffe, and think that he was being a little odd, thinking of Tartuffe rather than his wife. (this section can be used to show Orgons adoration for Tartuffe.)
Begining off Act two Orgon talkin to Mariane about getting married and spending the rest of her life with Tartuffe. This again shows how ruthless Tartuffe is, and how he is willing to do anything to keep Tartuffe happy, even if upsets his family members. Performed sitting Mariane down, whilst he walks/paces around her - showing his authority, andience would see quite a dominant character, and feel they weren't too keen on Orgon. He would have quite a questioning tone to begin with, but then it would turn slowly into a demanding tone - showing his authority. etis interupted by Dorine.
Act four - from Elmire "Well, Well! I don't know what to say!"... Orgon is in denial, Tartuffe is not aa bad man...Elmire tries to make him see sense, Orgon would hav a very stubborn tone, showing the audience how he doesn't belive Tartuffe is a bad man.
Talk about how Orgon would hide, and how this would be amusing for the audience, farcical!
That should be enough to talk about if you go into detail, however id you want another section, Act five is a good place to look!
Mariane - his daughterCasting: Quite small, thin. The ability to talk with a lisp.
Mariane is quite "wet" and "soppy". She would most probably blub alot, always have a hankerchief near by. She is an intravert.
Begining of Act two, eith Orgon. Mariane should seem like she doesn't want to disappoint her Father.
Mariane with Dorine in Act two, how she feels sooo disappointed for hinking about Tartuffe, and Dorine tells her how its going to be, should see Mariane with fear, possibly blubbing nervouse tone of voice, scared facial expressions, audience should see she is scared, unable to make her own decisions and a little insecure. And Mariane and Valere, so much can be done with this ection, lots of wandering in and out, lots of folded arms, turning backs and "huff's"!!!
Dorine - the maid
Casting: the ability to do a yorkshire accent. Quite thin.
Dorine is a happy person, and although a maid she isn't afraid to stand up to people, and to hand out advice and guidence.
Act Two, the begining, where she stands up to Orgon, stands with a proud powerful stance to show she isn't phased by Orgon's authority - audience will see this and see how independant she is, even though she is just a maid.
Act two from where Orgon exits Dorine comes back in and says "I had to speak for you. How come?"...this can be used to show again Dorines powerful side, and how she is full of advice.
Can use here section with Tartuffe in act three, where he tells her to cover her breasts - showing her sarcastic side, and her side that shows how she doesn't listen to authority.
Tartuffe - a religious fraud
Casting: A larger man possibly fat, needs quite large ears. I would also want him to have a redis nose (can be done with makeup) quite a deep voice and the ability to do a posh accent.
Although Tartuffe only appears in act three, he is talked about lots prior to his entry.
The audience should find Tartuffe amusing, yet vile and "sleezy".
Use Tartuffe's entrance in Act three, come down asks Dorine to cover her breasts, he would have sly glances at them whilst covering them with a cloth from an arms length! The audience would see his sly glances and get the impression he isn't the religious man he makes out he is!
Also use Act three when Elmire and Tartuffe are talking as Elmire is trying to persuade Tartuffe not to marry Mariane. Sit them on a chez lounge or a sofa, tartuffe moves closer to her and is staring at her breasts.
I would also use the end of act four, where Orgon is hidden under the table, and Tartuffe is making advances to Elmire. The audience can see how sexually driven Tartuffe is - low voice..he would sound quite brethless due to the "erotic" nature of this scene.
(when we did it at college we had Tartuffe put Elmire on the table and stradel her, lay her down, pin her arms behind her head...so on) I think this scene needs to me made quite sexual with it being obvious to the audience that Tartuffe wont stop until he gets what he wants!
Will post in a bit. Just while a I remember though, we had the chief examiner for drama in a few weeks ago. She mentioned Dorine was on a sample thing that is sent to all the drama teachers and therefore is a high chance it won't be on the exam paper.
Allllllso, this is the last year for Tartuffe (spec change etc) and Tartuffe has never come up on his own. Just a thought...
So so so sorry I didn't post! Well I did my Tartuffe essay second (thought I'd get OCG out the way first) and what did I go and do?! Not leave enough time!!!! Praying it's not too bad
I feel so sorry for all of you i'm studying it for french so admittedly the translating the entire text doo da is a bit annoying, but actually having to act the thing out!! it's awful and if you've ever watched the original french version of the film that is about a billion times worse.
