Default Went to the Derby Uni open day today...

and I really likes it, the biology cause looks really good and has a choice of excellent modules. However people have started taking the micky saying "its for idiotic people" etc.

So should I apply to a better uni?

Apply to whatever universities appeal to you the most.

If you like the look of the course and the university then apply.

Hi Night Hawk.
I'm Leoni, i'm third year at Derby, History & Sociology.
Pleased you enjoyed the open day.
I thought maybe it might help if you knew a bit about why I went to Derby.
I got into all 6 of the Uni's i applied for. Some were more 'prestigious' than Derby.
I went to their open days & felt like another digit, and another potential £ symbol in their bank account.
At Derby I felt like a person. It was relaxed, friendly & honest. It was refreshing to meet students who would admit Derby may not be high on the rankings, but rankings don't measure student experiences.
I have always been a firm believer that University is what you make of it, regardless of where you are. I've had an awesome time at Derby, and i really will hate to leave in April, but they've made me independent whilst still knowing that they would be my safety net if i ever needed it.
Go where you want to go, mate. It's your decision, no-one elses!
Best wishes
Leoni

Rule number one: you need to go somewhere you think you will be happy.
Rule number two: you have five choices, make use of them!

Derby is good for some courses like Computer Games Programming but struggles in the more traditional courses. I knew a girl who was told by a lecturer the week she started law at Derby that no-ones takes Derby Law graduates seriously unless they get a 1st so she left.
