yes i am a girl doing ppe . is RPC quite full of theology students then? i didn't really know that much about PPHs anyway, but Regent's didn't seem to hard core religous when i went for interview (i was pooled so didn't actually spend much time there, i'm not really religous or anything myself). and yeah PPH bonding seems a good plan since they're individually pretty small.

I put Regent's Park down for my law application as a second choice after Worcester. Does this make it much (if at all) more likely that I will get an interview at Regent's as opposed to any other random college/PPH?

Hello, I will be in Regent's Park, how big are the rooms? I keep pet fish and am hoping to fit a 5 foot long tank in my room. Is that viable? And are there any pics of rooms there?

cheers

Looks like this is a thread that could be described as less than thriving. If anyone has any questions about why being at a PPH won't ruin your life, feel free to message me, and I'll try to keep an eye on the thread.

I don't, but could I ask you another Regent's Park-related question: Why is it called 'college' if it's a PPH? I mean, I know it has a much larger intake than the others and is probably the most college-like of the PPHs, but by definition it still isn't actually a college, no?

I wish I could tell you. It's true, we don't have a college license, and so we're not a college in the same way that the vast majority are.

I'd like to say it's arise colliqually, to distance ourselves from every other PPH. You say that we're the most college-like of the PPH's; I'd definitely agree with that, and even argue that we're more or less identical with, say, Mansfield (who were a PPH I believe until the mid-90'). But then, it says college on the lovely plaque on the front door, so there must be some official explanation.

Which would technically make us Regents Park College Permanent Private Hall. Which is such a mouth-full! The distance is probably that we've toned down the ministerial training intake, part of what makes a PPH a PPH, and increased vastly (in recent years) our undergraduate intake and support; part of what makes a college a college.

In short, absolutely no idea. But I tend not to argue with it

You could as well ask why LMH has Hall in it's name

Because none of the former women's colleges started out with degree-awarding powers, so they were PPHs to begin with. LMH just happens to be the only one of them which didn't drop the 'Hall' in the name after becoming recognised as a proper college. That's not quite the same thing, though, is it?

No, it's not.

As to why RPC is RPC, I imagine that it is because it was affliated with the University of London during last century, and only became a PPH at Oxon in 1957. http://www.rpc.ox.ac.uk/index.php?pageid=139

Ah, right. That sounds like a reasonable explanation, actually.

Is there any downside with picking RPC as a potential second choice? The way I see it, if I don't get into my first choice it just makes it more likely that my offer will be from RPC as opposed to any of the others. . is that broadly correct?
