I think it's pretty hard to pass proper judgement on a place unless you've been there and experienced it. However, saying that, when a place is constantly in the news for shootings and knife crimes, it's hard to imagine it being a lovely place! I've heard pretty bad things about Moss side in Manchester, and also some parts of Liverpool, but I've never been to either. I've been through Newcastle hundreds of times and have never had a bad experience, but I know there are rougher parts. I live in Leicester and have never really seen any rough bits yet, but I do stick to the city center. There are good and bad parts of every place really. Did anyone see that documentary on Glasgow maybe a year ago? That seems like a pretty rough place when you watch something like that, yet i've been through it about 7 years ago and didn't think it seemed that bad!

On the flipside you will also meet some good friends and just eventually learn to ignore the ***** that pollutes medway

Depends what you mean by dangerous.

If you mean how "rough" an area is generally then places like Harlesden, Dalston, South Kilburn, New Cross (in London), Easterhouse, the Gorbals etc. are all gonna be about the same I would imagine.

But the places I would least like to go and **** about would probably be Derry and East/West Belfast. It's not about having your kneecaps blown off/your car bombed/being crucified to a fence. But to my knowledge them places like Derry (not Belfast) are extremely safe unless you step on people's toes.

I feel the need to stick up for Newport haha
The majority of it is fine! There's just a 2 or 3 areas which are best to avoid, but then again there arn't many cities which don't have any bad areas. I definitely wouldn't say it was one of the most dangerous areas of the UK!
