But be careful though...colleges don't really like it. Even if you don't plan on doing anything "mathematical" they still prefer SL Maths. HL even better haha

I dont think thats really fair considering many A-levels dont even do maths. That means many of them must be rubbish at math only doing math at GCSE level!

1. Finish up those CAS forms and get those signatures ASAP. Preferably in first year.

Finish about 3/4 of your hours by then and PLAN LONG-TERM PROGRAMS that seep into your 2nd year so you can seem like a committed student. That and you won't have to worry about planning more stuff in 2nd year.

2. Start on your EE asap. In 1st year preferably. At least write about your topic or experiment with a couple of books. But I find (if you're doing a humanities subject - Geog,History,English) you ought to write about it in your 2nd year because you'll be a lot maturer than you were in 1st. Dunno why.

3. Give up your mid-year results in favour of scoring for the IB. A lot of our mid years clashed with IB deadlines like the English IOP and oral commentary. It's okay to fail your mid-terms if you can score an A in the end for your final grade. (Very hard to swallow at first, but useful).

4. It's going to be a long year, so don't lose sight of your goals at the end. D: I wish I had studied harder for SL Bio.

5. And that's about it, I think. Good luck and have fun! If you plan your time well I think you'll find the IB is a lot easier and more fun than the regular As.

IB isn't too too bad. The real difficulty is preparing yourself for the final examinations, especially for the first time.

Languages, especially your second language, ENSURE that you are writing your paper two at a sufficient level of quality in order to get a decent grade. The examiners will most likely moderate everything down anyway, so if your paper two is above par, you will keep your grade. I was predicted a 7 and received a 4 in French IB B SL because of this; my oral was moderated down because my classmates read theirs on cue cards and my paper two was not as good as I was hoping for.

Review questionbanks! Purchase study guides! Finish your extended essay right after the summer! Study your subjects any off chance you have before May (ie reviewing subjects in November/December even). Oh, and keep your friends, sports/creative activities as well.

And perhaps the biggest tip: Do the ******* papers. That means, TOK, Extended Essay, World Lit papers, Math Portfolios, labs, etc. If you don't get through those as quick as you can, you'll turn out depressed or completely bogged down and you'll have to drop IB like one of my friends.
