Default Muslim Marriage Contract

I stumbled across http://www.muslimparliament.org.uk/D...20Contract.pdf via http://www.bmsd.org.uk/

Interested in the comments of all, particularly Muslims on the content of the document and also from Christians and how it compares with what your church views as the rights and responsibilities of marriage.

Interesting how the husband is not allowed to "withhold economic contributions towards his wife/family" but there's no similar condition for the wife.

Mahr isn't just a way of showing off wealth - it's a way of showing (and also ensuring) that you're actually serious about the marriage, and that you aren't going to just sleep with her and run off next week.

Because in Islam, any money or property owned by women is theirs to keep, and they are not obliged to share it. Similarly, in marriage, a woman's salary is hers and cannot be appropriated by her husband unless she consents.
