That really isnt true, it varies a lot across colleges. Problem is, its difficult to identify which ones have that problem.

Well, in theory they should. In reality it probably depends on the people in charge of welfare, and that obviously changes from year to year so it's not something that's easy to comment on accurately as you say. In any case, I don't know how easy it would be for an applicant to distinguish colleges by their welfare systems.

You can apply for both, and I know someone that did and got offers for both. And yeah, you can apply to the same college for both or different colleges.

Not from the prospectus no, but I can think of at least a couple of colleges which have problems with their welfare and I am sure you can too.

Brilliant thank you, do you know if they applied to different colleges?
Also are the accommodation rates less if you share a room?
Thanks.

I think she applied to the same college for both courses, but I'm not 100% sure. And nope, the accomodation's the same price whether you share or not.

Hi, I don't know if anyone could help me but I'm wondering about GCSE's. I really want to apply for Anthropology [or Anthropology and sociology combined] at Durham and I have the predicted grades required however my GCSE's arn't the best. Let's just say I don't have straight A's and A*'s, although they are all passes. Does anyone know how much the admissions officers for the course value GCSE's, and whether or not it would be worth applying or not?

As far as I know anthropology does not have any specific GCSE requirements. If you're worried it might be worth just emailing the department's admissions people (Malcolm.Smith@durham.ac.uk according to their website) and asking.

Guys, I need to have pretty much sorted UCAS by tomorrow, can someone give me some advice on choosing a college?

http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/show....php?t=1083059 I posted here, but I'll say it again here. I'm going to study Computing.

I've never been to Durham, let alone England, so keep that in mind. :D But I do live in the UK.

I've read the info about the colleges in the FAQ thread and I've narrowed it down to these ones:

(Distances relative to the computing building)
* Collingwood - Seems relatively close
* Grey - Seems very close!
* Trevelyan - Seems relatively close
* Van Mildert - Closeish
* Butler - Not so close
* St Hild/St Bede - Years away
* St Mary's - Close

Basically I don't want to go a drunken/party college (as I am boring), and I don't want to share a room or share a bathroom with lots of people, but I'd like to be in one that looks nice or is pretty near to important things at least. I don't really care if it's formal or anything, I'd probably like something a little traditional. And not really expensive... D:

Thanks!

Nowhere is that far away. If you want less traditional and a single room then VM is probably your best bet.

Hello lovely Durham students,
I appreciate there may not be many Ustinov students here but does anyone have any experiences with the college good or bad? Do they seem like a nice bunch? ;o

Thanks for any help you can provide

I'm not from Ustinov, but I've been to both the bar and the college day and they were both nice. Good atmosphere. They seem to have quite a lot of cool international events going on too.

It's very international. They have an amazing bar and seem to have lots of events running, like GH said. It also has a bus into town for when you can't be bothered to drag heavy shopping up the hill.
