Default Applying to Warwick for History

Hey guys, Im applying for History at Warwick (well i want to anyway) but today my teacher told me that they only take like super-top students. Im doing the IB programme, and warwick's offer is between 35-38, though they said their standard offer was 36 points . Though im taking 2 exams again, i reckon i could get 36, and i already have a 7 in history HL. My tutor says that they would only consider me if i had 38 points though.

Does anyone know more about the history department's treatment with IB students. i really want to go to warwick but my tutor's advice has got me rather worried now.

I didn't do history or IB but I did apply to Warwick...if it's anything like the Math department you'll get an offer from them if you're predicted the standard offer...but you'd have to work really hard during the year to get the top end grade other wise you may be turned down...they're clear cut when it comes to yes' and no's on results day and they're getting over subscribed every year....history may be different obviously but by your teacher's advice it still osunds pretty competitive

I'm doing History at Warwick, I did A levels rather than the IB but if you have any questions regarding the course, or if there's anything else you wanna know that I can help with let me know.

I think your tutor's being a bit pessimistic. If you already have a 7 in IB HL that shows you're really good at history and it has to be worth a shot. I'd email them to double-check they'll consider re-sits and if they say they will, give them a shot.

Hey, I'm a prospective Warwick student and I was just wondering what the history course in Warwick is like, and what student life is like? How do you like your course?

Student life is entirely what you make of it, we have pretty much everything you need here - question is: will you take advantage of it? From my experience over the past 6 weeks I've found 90%+ of people I've met here to be very nice. Your experience will probably be dictated largely by what hall / friendship groups you're in though.. Rootes for example is perceived to be the most sociable hall overall, we're very rowdy and have lotsss of kitchen parties.
Nightlife isn't great but it's bearable, you have the SU club plus others in Cov/Leam.. and the uni express does trips to birmingham (gatecrasher, oceana etc). Aside from that you have clubs and socs to fill up your time... I'm actually struggling trying to work out how to cram everything into my timetable. I was elected to an exec position for my hall so I (along with the other execs) will be organising events to make it a great year all-round for my hall.

Haha thanks for the insight! I've heard only good things about the atmosphere in Warwick. Everyone I know who goes there seems to love it and says everyone is lovely and friendly. Which is definitely a huge plus! Hoping for an offer soon, or something!

Haha it's actually a relief to know that Warwick itself is kind of self-contained to keep that 'student vibe' but near enough other cities. Warwick definitely sounds like a lot of fun if you're keen on having any!

Well first years have a choice between modern and medieval history, which would you be doing?

Yeah it is a nice atmosphere, you can walk around and bump into people you know, it also seems perfectly safe (something which I doubt many city unis can offer). It's very welcoming to people who've never done sports before and with so many socs to join you'll always have something to do. The pool/gym is a reasonable price for students too if you're into that. You'll have a great time as long as you don't hole yourself up in your room for the freshers fortnight - it's all about making friends and it's vital for a decent social life here. Good luck with the UCAS by the way .

Yikes, I forgot to say that my course isn't pure history, it's history and politics. But if there's still that choice I'd love to do medieval history!

haha really? that does sound very nice. i'd really like a cosy university life where i know most people on campus. Haha you guys are making Warwick sound amazing I might die of the wait before I even receivea response!

That being said, Warwick's definitely a top choice for me. It does seem to be the only university where opinion is rarely divided on what a nice place it is! (In other forums there are a fair amount of people who hate where they're at).

I'd definitely love to get a place here, but yeah, still awaiting the dreaded admissions committee. D:

I think everyone does agree Warwick is amazing but this does mean that a lot of people apply, they're fair about their admissions and making offers...just make sure you find an insurance you like even if you get an offer and don't stress too much Hope you get in but good luck wherever you end up

Haha, I'm sure they are! And I'll be keeping my fingers crossed till I get a response.

I was just wondering though, is Durham more recognized academically than Warwick? It's just that the Durham cut off seemed to be a lot higher, so I was curious. I know Warwick is definitely more known for Math, but I'm not sure about History and the humanities.
