Currently in the first term of my first year.

Expenditure:
- Tuition Fee £3225 (paid for by loan - well half of it anyway)
- Accommodation £2850 (paid for by dad)
- Books (£200)
- Food and other living expenses (£110) = Just over £18 a week after being here for over 6 weeks.

Income:
- Tuition Fee Loan (£3225)
- Maintenance Loan (£3563)

So far i've spent £310 out of the £1176 from the first loan installment. Expect this to rise to around £400 by the time I go back for Christmas which leaves a fair bit left. I think I could probably have financed the accommodation myself by using some money I had already but Dad offered to pay, for which I am very grateful.

It would be a tight fit if the maintenance loan was all I had to live on (without a job and if I had no money saved up beforehand), although it IS manageable.

I have been financially independent since the age of 16. I also decided to work full-time for a couple of years before starting my degree. I'm surprised more people don't do that rather than going from college to university straight away.

Oh, one of those 'I don't get any money so I'm maturer than anyone who gets money from their parents'-threads...

The only money my sister gets of my parents for university is the bus fare there and back. She goes to the local university you see.

I've got a loan for tuition, and my parents pay my accommodation and give me just about enough to live on...any extras I fund myself.

My parents pay my tuition fees and rent and give me £250 a month for living costs, which I am very very grateful for. I also have a part-time job and earn an extra £150 or so a month, which just goes straight into savings. I know that I am very fortunate in that I will leave university with no debts, and with a reasonable amount of money saved up.

Yes, they give me pretty much all the money I have, except the money I earn from working during holidays.

Just for the record I am not trying to bait other users I am merely stating what a lot of other people think about students who scrounge off their parents, it is ridiculous that I was warned for this post.

Thats abit harsh though i do agree mostly
i was in a situation where i get the minumum loan (which is 500 quid short of rent, all bills are included in that as well), that extra cash, plus food and living has to be found somewhere.....
have a part time job bt they want me to do wayyy too many hrs so im just gonna quit that so i can focus on uni & just do holiday work
(aparently as of this morning i have a savings bond which they put away for me ......good times......especially as i work at maccyd's LMAO...oh i am so quitting. though i am glad that i experienced living independently & that ive had to stuggle abit cause now i know the value of money & will be more sensible with it, blah, blah, blah)

i think theres nothign wrong with living off rents whilst ure at uni;just cause ure not working doesnt mean ure lazy. now ive got the extra time on my hands (no more 30 hrs per week ),im gonna go to more society meetings & do some voluntary work, as well as study more

just cause they dont work doesnt mean they're lazy.....

(though there are many students that are! and they need to realise that parents wont be there forever with the cash so they will have to "live in the real world" as they say pretty soon incase it smacks them in the face someday)
