Just wondering, is anyone on/applying for the bioveterinatry course?
Also, what is the riseholme campus like? I've heard kind of debatable things about it... what are your views on it? I know its kind of out in the sticks and everything which sort of does put me off from staying there compared to the main campus, but I plan to only live there for a year, and find private accomodation for years 2 and 3.
Is there internet access in your rooms there? Also, how easy it is from getting to the main campus to the riseholme? And are the halls mixed sex?
Is there internet access in your rooms there? Yes, but it's not great
Also, how easy it is from getting to the main campus to the riseholme? There are 6 buses a day, so it's not that easy
And are the halls mixed sex? Yes
It's boring, but you make your own fun. Rooms are like prison cells, but you put posters up etc. It's generally a nice place to be, but not to live. I don't live there, but I spend a lot of time there with my friends (kipping on the floor)
I saw the halls of accomodation on the open day, and I thought they weren't that great compared to main campus, so I might think about staying there instead. Also, I don't like the fact its self catered, I like to do my own cooking lol!
Is it difficult travelling from the main campus to Riseholme?
I can't wait to go if I do end up choosing Lincoln!!
hi i'm doing biovet living at riseholme
its no where near as bad as kimmyroebuck makes out, u really can't judge it unless u live here.
Yes we do get internet access in all the room and it's fine i can't complain about it. The halls r mixed sex although it has to be said there are more girls then boys but then thats the same on the course as well.
Riseholme is actually really nice to live at, true the kitchen is rather basic ( fridge, freezer, toaster, kettle and microwave) but then we only have to cook lunch as catered for, and takeaways are cheep. From what i've heard there isn't much cooking done at brayford away as most peeps get takeaways as they can't be bothered to cook.
As for the rooms there really what you make them, they are rather depressing when u come in to an empty room byt once you've got ur stuff in and put up posters and a rug on the floor they are really nice and r actually a lot bigger then at some uni's ( nottingham for example).
However transport between the campusses can be an issue. It doesn't really affect me at riseholme as i don't need to get to brayford for lectures so i can just get what busses i want into town when i want to go in. However there are issues for people at brayford getting in on the busses for lectures as there are only so many buses a day which don't necessarily link up with lecture times. Also there are more people who need to get the busses then there are room on the buses and i know some people form town end up getting taxi's in to riseholne for lectures first thing in the morning when this is more of an issue.
However there are dissadvantages to riseholme as we have to get taxi's into town if we go out in the evening, but this is quite cheap shared between a few people ( abou £1). However loads of people have ther cars at riseholme so most of the time if ur going into brayford for a society in the evening, or what to go food shopping ect. then someone will give you a lift.
Just one more point i certainly find that the people who live a riseholme bond together quite quickly and there isn't necessarily that much interaction with the people who live at brayfold as we don't see them much and had already made friends by the time lectures started.
hope this helped if there's anything else u want to know then just ask
As you say, you really can't judge it unless you live there, but if I lived there I'd not like it very much. I'd totally go for Brayford and just travel up, plenty of people do that

I travel from Brayford to Riseholme to do Biovet, and if you're not the sort of person who will get an 11am bus for a 1 oclock lecture then you will end up missing things. It's hard to drag yourself out of bed at 7am when you don't have to be in 'till 930, especially when it would take me half an hour less travelling time from home, doing 50 miles instead of 5.
It's quite 'rural' at Riseholme, there are college kids that do agricultural courses, and they can be very loud and annoying. I too wouldn't have enjoyed the catered experience, or the sharing of bathrooms (can get ensuite on campus easily).
The course isn't too hard, and I'm in my second year now and still doing things we did at A level (I got a B in biology A2), it gets quite annoying for me in that respect - but others I know are finding it all new so it does depend. Some modules are harder than others. It's quite a full course too, first year I had around 24 hours a week (practicals and lectures), 2nd year I've got about 20 hours (all 9am starts though!).
There's good points and bad points. If I was starting again I wouldn't choose the course or the place, however that's purely my personal experience - not true for everyone.
thanks alot for the help everyone! theres so much to consider about it though, I don't want to stay at Riseholme itself, the halls on the main campus were soo much nicer... I will have to give this a think now!

why do you say this? Are you not enjoying the course as much as you would like to? My other choice is RVC, but I am still sooo undecided what to do?! I LOVE Lincoln as a city, I really like Riseholme, and the major plus point is that my parents will buy me a house for second and thirs year to stay in, and rent out (its their investment). I'm not too sure about the course structure, but the modules seem so interesting.
I just don't know if RVC would be a better option for BioVet itself? My aim is to do Veterinary after biovet!
If you can get into RVC, do it, it's more prestigious and possibly will help you get onto an RVC vet course more than one from Lincoln.
Like I say, I've done most of the course before at Alevel (even into second year stuff) so I feel like I'm paying for revision and not getting a degree as such. The lecturers aren't very good, a lot of cancelled lectures and 2 hour lectures turn into a half hour rushed job.
Lincoln is nice as a city I'll agree with you on that one, it's just quite small and I really don't like Riseholme or the buses. Rent is significantly cheaper than London though that's for sure.
Not trying to put you off the course, just showing you the 'real-life' side to it compared to their spiel on the website.
I'm currently in 2nd year doing Bioveterinary Science. The accomodation there is OK....but not great, so I lived in the Student Village at Brayford for my first year in an ensuite room, which was much nicer all round. I found it better as well as you're able to walk straight off of campus into town at Brayford, and it can feel very isolated at Riseholme unless you have a car.
The shuttlebuses have been an ongoing battle due to their timings/lack of them, but I found them frequent enough to live with (albeit they were pretty frustrating at times,) to be able to live at Brayford and learn on Riseholme. I dont know about the internet connection in R/holme accomodation, but the one in Brayford halls was good, and I have heard from friends that its better than the ones they experienced in R/holme halls.
Riseholme campus itself is beautiful, and it feels more like an estate or park than a university establishment. Its a very relaxing place to learn (apart from the shuttle bus frustration at times, but hopefully some changes can get implemented for next year, as this issue is - FINALLY - getting taken seriously!) with lots of animals for handling practicals and things. The only thing I'd say is some of the theory in 1st year biovet is frustratingly basic, and has been so far in 2nd year, although we have started learning some more advanced topics now as well as a few basic points, so I think it looks up quite quickly.
