Agree to the former - 3weeks to go! . . . Tried 12weeks stretching before = hair didn't like it!

i am a black male with very thick coarse small hair. When i bursh it, the hair returns to a very coiled up state that looks very picky and ugly. i have tried using a brush but there must be something wrong with the way i brush as it restores bacck to the picky state in a matter of minutes. I don't want any thing special really, ij ust want flat smooth short hair which is not picky at all.Any one know any brushing motions i could use or any creams or tnything i need to do , to acheive this look cause right nowits really anying and i am at uni far from any black barbers. Any tips?

I use the one that you leave in for 2 mins, I find it does a good job and I like the smell
