Corrupt Disk? Corrupt Google Chrome? HP550 problem
    Basically...

The other day I turned my laptop on and tried to load Windows Live Mail but it said there was a problem with the disk, and it was corrupt and couldn't retrieve my messages. Then Google Chrome started being funny and a small baloon in the right corner said something along the lines of it being corrupt and to run CHDSK.

I can turn the laptop on but it turns off whenever it feels like it. I haven't got a clue whats wrong with it or where to start with fixing it!!?? I would've done system restore but I deleted the restore points when using CCleaner, DOH!

    Help please?

    Run chkdsk.

    On Vista/Win 7...
Start menu > Computer > right click on C: > Properties > Tools > Click 'Check now'

When the laptop turns off randomly, is it hot?

i tried to run chdsk before and the computer crashed so i reset + started in safe mode with networking (what im using now). i'll try to run it again now.

bugger, it doesn't turn off, my bad, it crashes. I meant that instead.

At what point does it crash?

Again, is your laptop hot when it crashed? It's possibly overheating.

it crashes when it feels like it. sometimes when im logging on (and it stays as a black screen), sometimes once it's logged on and loading initial applications/programmes. Sometimes just when im browsing the internet.

i clicked "check now" and it says it cannot check while the disk is in use and to schedule it for when I next start my computer (but it doesnt check when i start the computer up..)
