Re: Campus vs. city based uni - POLL
City-based for sure. I found this out the hard way after applying to universities. The fact that I really didn't want a campus university meant that I declined York, Sussex and Lancaster straight away in favour for King's and Edinburgh. I don't think it's something many people think about when they first apply to university, but for me it was the one thing that really helped me separate my choices. There's a huge difference between campus and city-based universities. If I could go back in time I would keep KCL and Edinburgh, but apply to UCL, Manchester and Sheffield instead. Sheffield's English language and linguistics course is excellent and it's supposedly one of the best student cities.

Re: Campus vs. city based uni - POLL
I had this exact dilemna, Loughborough/RHUL vs SOAS/City.
In the end I went for City as I just couldnt see myself at Loughborough/RHUL for 3 years away from a big City (im born and bred in London). So in the end the City prevailed and I should be off to SOAS God Willing.
IMO though, I want to reapply for Notts, and big campus unis in London such as UCL, as they have a feel of a campus but are in a massive city! -

Waterloo isn't really a campus, but Guy's and the Strand (with the acquisition of Somerset House) feel like small campuses within central London. I hated the idea of York as it was on the outskirts of the city with very little to do. I don't want to have boundaries and feel like I'm in a student bubble. I want to be able to walk out into the city and see and do things that aren't all student/university related. -

I'm at Nottingham so get the best of both worlds!
If I had to choose though, I would definitely go for campus. I love the fact that I can wake up 10 minutes before lectures, all my friends are nearby and there are loads of student friendly libraries, cafes, banks, doctors and denitists on campus. Its insular but I love it. It also means if you're accommodation includes food and you moderate your going out that you won't spend all your money at the shops as I have been apt to do when I've been released into the world outside Notts campus
