"I'll keep up my language at uni""
I almost took a language degree or a combined honours with a language.
Decided not to and went for the straight English course in the end for various reasons.
I am keen to keep up mylanguage but I want a general forecast if this happens a lot.
Lots of people say they'll keep up with the language, but how many actually do? -
Re: "I'll keep up my language at uni""You can always do a language unit at the language centre, if you're that keen? Or join the French society or what ever language it is you want to keep up.(Original post by sundogs)

I'm not sure about UCL but I assume there will be a similar set up.
At Warwick there is a language centre, which allows you to take courses in most languages.
(Arabic, BSL, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, Urdu) these are mostly extra-curricular leisure courses, for people of all levels, from beginners to post-A level.
The ones in Blue, you can take as modules in your degree, meaning they are for credit, and you take an exam in them and they count towards your degree! -

I'm learning Italian alongside my degree and I've managed to keep that up
Although I did start completely from scratc so I guess it doesn't quite fit the definition of 'keeping it up'
It can be done as long as you're really passionate about doing so and just keep at it anytime you have a moment to spare.

I would personally like to - either refresh my French and/or learn either Spanish or Italian - I really want to learn another language. I studied German for 2 years but did not like it much
It is apparently £47 for a year to learn a language at the uni I am hopefully getting into which is quite good!

Re: "I'll keep up my language at uni""
I only 'kept up' my French because I got a job where I had to work a bit in France, so my French obviously came in useful. But did I read French newspapers, watch French films and listen to French radio while I was at uni like I'd intended to?
No. And you probably won't either because it's very easy to forget to! -
Re: "I'll keep up my language at uni""
To be honest, unless you actually take a class or a module in the language centre, you probably won't keep it up. I started doing French as part of my degree, and when I dropped it from the course, I intended to keep it up with grammar practices and reading newspapers/magazines, but I never did.
